Sharjah, Feb 4: 'Sophiya' superhit Konkani movie which witnessed successful houseful shows in Dubai and Abu Dhabi recorded one more houseful show in Sharjah on Friday February 2 at 4 pm. Konkani movie lovers flocked to the theatre well in advance to grab the seats. It was a total festive mood in Mega Mall.
The movie received a fantastic response from Konkani audience in Novo Cinemas, Mega Mall, Sharjah. The inauguration was held at around 3.45 pm with MC Uttam Menezes welcoming the audience and the guests. He briefed on the success of 'Sophiya' wherever it was released and thanked Konkani movie fans for making it happen.
He then invited Fr Maxim Pinto of Sharjah church, Fr Charles who was on a visit, patron of Kannadigas in Sharjah Mark Denis, singer, actor and philanthropist Joseph Mathias, Adrian Melroy and Shodhan Prasad. 'Sophiya' producer Janet Noronha welcomed the guests with flowers.
Fr Maxim Pinto in his inaugural speech briefed on the event and said that anyone coming forward and taking initiative to serve Konkani language must be supported and honoured. "Today Janet Noronha has taken this bold step with this venture, thus giving an entertaining treat to our Konkani community," he added. He then thanked her and also thanked all those who were responsible in bringing this movie to the Gulf. He also shared some lighter moments remembering Ester Nite in Don Bosco Hall a few years ago in which he had participated as guest.
Mark Denis who is a strong supporter of Konkani spoke a few words and briefed that people from Konkani community should be proud of themselves as their language being a minority language has been recognized and included in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution while other languages like Tulu, Beary and Kodava are still trying to get included. He also shared the difficulties in making movies for the entertainment of the community and that members of the community need to come forward and support, so that more producers would come forward in taking risks for their community.
Fr Maxim rendered prayer and blessed the event. In his prayer he mentioned that all those who supported the venture be blessed to do more for the society.
Uttam Menezes thanked all those who supported the release of 'Sophiya' in Sharjah and the movie opened with a cheer.
After the show, the audience gathered outside the theatre premises and sharing their views until late evening. All of them thanked producer Janet Noronha for producing such a beautiful movie and said they expect more in the future.
Shows elsewhere in Gulf:
Overall, 'Sophiya' enjoyed super success in the whole of UAE and still there is demand for more shows. 'Sophiya' is marching ahead to other neighbouring Gulf states soon, said producer Janet Noronha who is happy with the public response for her first ever movie. The positive response has boosted her confidence to produce another movie.
Plans are there to host one show in Mussafah and one show in Al Ain as the Konkani church group leaders in these areas have been approaching the distributors time and agan. Dates of these shows are not yet finalized and will be announced once theaters are available.
