Selling pakodas not shameful: Shah in maiden RS speech

New Delhi, Feb 5 (IANS): BJP President Amit Shah in his maiden speech in Rajya Sabha on Monday said that selling pakodas (fritters) is not shameful but comparing it with begging was.

Speaking on unemployment during his speech on Motion of Thanks on President's address, Shah said that selling pakodas was better than being unemployed.

"Some people are saying things about selling pakodas. I also read P. Chidambaram's tweet. Yes, I agree that selling pakodas is better than being unemployed.

"Making and selling pakodas is not shameful, but equating it with begging is certainly shameful," Shah said.

"Today if a person is earning livelihood by selling pakodas, tomorrow his son would become a big industrialist. A tea vendor's son can became the Prime Minister of this country," he added amid opposition's hooting.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a television interview just ahead of the Budget session had said that people earning Rs 200 a day selling pakoras can be considered employed.

Modi's claim drew widespread flak from the opposition with leaders calling it a "cruel joke" and as good as begging.

Senior Congress leader and former Finance Minister Chidambaram had tweeted: "Even selling pakodas is a 'job', said PM. By that logic, even begging is a job. Let's count poor or disabled persons who are forced to beg for a living as 'employed' people."

Shah also blamed the "55 years long" Congress rule for the widespread unemployment.

"It was Congress government in the country for 55 years. We have been in power for only seven to eight years. This problem (unemployment) would not have become so humungous if effective steps were taken during those 55 years," Shah said.

The BJP President said that the Narendra Modi government had inherited a "big crater" and most of the government's time and resources have gone into "filling that crater" that it inherited.

"It is pertinent to recall what were the circumstances in 2013. Even those guarding the borders of this country could not show their valour due to government's indecisiveness. There was complete policy paralysis," he said.

These BJP ministers thought that as soon as they come to power they can remove poverty and unemployment . They came to power by blaming the 55 years long congress government for corruption, unemployment, poverty etc., Even after being in power they are still blaming the congress government. They should be taking necessary steps to tackle these problems and prove that the earlier government did not do what they are doing now. All know that the present government is following the development policies of the previous government by just changing the names of the schemes. The only difference is that, now they advertise the schemes by spending crores of rupees, which is collected from sincere citizens who pay taxes honestly. Now they have realised that they cannot give employment to crores of people, so they are shamelessly making such "pakora" statements and playing the blame game trying to save themselves from false and unrealistic promises.

Let me quote Modi from his 2013 election speech
“If BJP comes to power, it will provide one crore jobs which the UPA Government could not do despite announcing it before the last Lok Sabha polls”
    Selling pakodas not shameful: Shah
    1. If there is so much potential in 'Pakora' business, why did you set up company for your son Yash Shah for just Rs.50000 which made a turnaround of Rs 80 crores 16,000 times more than the investment?
    2. Why do your son need to close such a profitable business just importing pulses which is one of the main recipe for 'Pakora'?
    3. Why only Pakora? Why not Gujrati Dhokla, Papdi and so on?
    4. Why do government need to pump so much money in education and employment when someone can earn open stall outside Amit Shah residence and Rs200 and day?
I think both the Z TV, PM and Amit Shah has not only insulted jobless youths but also has rubbed the salt on “ Pakoda'" sellers.
He has degraded to the level where now he is taking credits of even Pakodas in the country. Probably according to him earlier nobody was selling Pakodas and his government made Pakoda selling legal and so he will count it among those 1 crore jobs that he promised.

Anybody who tried to get Mudra loan, or those who work in banks know that Mudra Yojna is another failed scheme. So now PM has to take credit of Pakoda just as he took credit of surgical strike done by the army.

Selling pakodas is not shameful and Chidambaram did not say it was shameful. People selling pakodas on the roadside are not doing it out of their own free will. They are doing it because they have no jobs and because the government which promised them jobs and acche din has not kept its promises. Let Shah go personally and ask the pakoda sellers if they are happy with his shameful government which is rich on hype and zero in substance. He will get his answer if he is lucky not to get lynched.

Ok, Selling "pakodas" is not shameful. Agreed
But, Should Educated, highly qualified men sell pakodas ???
If selling "pakodas" is the profession, then what is the necessary of professional courses???
There are thousands of less previleged men out there already selling "pakodas", So, if all qualified men start selling "pakodas", where would they go ???
If everybody start selling "pakodas", who will buy "pakodas" ??? there will be only sellers no buyers.
Mr. Shah, Are you ready to sell "pakodas" for living ?? If so, come forward and be the inspiration to our young generation.

Those who sell Pakodas, Omlets, Dosas, Idli, Panipuri earn much more than a government or a private company employee. They don't have to go in time, come late in the evening, no need to answer the boss, no meetings, no timings, no need to attend frequent training, transfers, no dress code, etc...etc.... Totally free...
I think individual business is much more better than working for a company or office.

for the so called middle class:
6 Lakh crores will be spent this year on Roads/Railways/Infrastructure. Who benefits from those? Those who don’t have a meal to eat don’t care about expressways and faster trains. You have the SUVs to use on those roads.
400+ new Airports will be built across India in tier-2/3 towns. Who benefits from those? Poor don’t fly. Super rich have charters. Its middle class who will travel faster or make best of those long-weekend getaways with such a huge infrastructure impetus.
Hundreds of new Medical colleges will be opened via budget allocations this year. Whose kids need those? Kids of super rich could any day buy a seat – but hey, they don’t even want it, because they have business empires to run. Kids of poor barely make it to high school.
Who benefits most from investments in digital India infrastructure and digitization of services?
Rs 17000 crores to be spent for Suburban transport in Bangalore and Mumbai alone. Who benefits? Not the farmer in Dharwad or farm labourer in Akola. Not even the super rich who will never take the metro anyways!
Rs 22000 Gramin Markets will be setup. Hell, another farmer thing. Yeah, but guess who benefits most. YOU! because you get freedom from extreme inflation cycles.
