Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (UM)

Udupi, Feb 9: Officials of the income tax department (I-T) conducted raids on owners of fishing boats here on Thursday February 8. The raids continued even on Friday February 9.

Sources said that I-T sleuths from Delhi searched the houses and office-bearers of various fishermen organizations and boat owners.

The raids began early morning on Thursday.

Sources said that the raids were being conducted based on certain allegations that some politicians had laundered money in the fishing industry.

It is learnt that I-T officials searched the premises of Anand Kunder, Hariyappa Kotian, Sadhu Salian and Anand Suvarna.

It is not yet known if the sleuths found any incriminating evidence.

Income from fishing or fish trade is not exempt from income tax in India. Many are under the wrong notion that it is exempt as it is “ Agricultural income ”. The income is taxable like any other source

I know supported BJP during elections and Modi Govt is backstabbing them. BJP is a party of backstabbers. When their mission is fulfilled they backstab. Take the case of Pravin Togadia.

All I know is these fish factory owners are struggling due to lack of fish to run their factory at the moment. More than 6 months in a year they are idle and they are trying to import fish from other countries to keep the workers occupied and pay salary! They have imported expensive machinery for production line and not enough feed stock to run the factory!

MLA 's of AAP holding parliamentary secretary positions were disqualified even though they held the position earlier and not now. Previous president did not accept their request and they waited for the president to be changed. What about our own parliamentary secretary? Is it because there is very less time left before the election or are they waiting for the MLA to hop the party for the next election?

Along with Amith Shah's address to fishermen's conference stage is set for Mr. Madhwaraj to contest in BJP ticket in the upcoming assembly election. Rollce Royce is going to be very costly. Caste & religion politics would not be of any benefit to the people. No development can take place with this. Look at the states where there is no caste & religion politics. There is more development in airport, railway & roads than the states where income is getting generated.

    Rathan,
Khangress is also corrupt, baba. I never said congress was not corrupt. But why play dirty politricks by involving IT raid only on congress party funders...There are hundreds of corrupt industrialists and business people who contribute to BJP coffers. Why no raids on them is my point.

These fishermen accumulated good amount of wealth and through cash transactions. Owning well built houses, latest model vehicles, foreign tours, etc. This is attracted the attention of IT. They also own lands at various locations. Then it is obvious that source of money has to be known and amount of tax paid them to this effect.

These raids are politically motivated by Central government at request of local BJP politicians as they know that they are going to loose here in next election. Next they will send CBI who BJP did not trust before they formed the central government.
