Mangaluru: Hindu Samiti wants Parents' Worship Day in place of Valentine's

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Feb 12: Hindu Jana Jagruti Samiti has requested both city police commissioner, T R Suresh, and Dakshina Kannada district superintendent of police, Dr Ravikanthe Gowda, to stop improper activities people undertake as part of Valentine's Day, and instead, encourage celebrating February 14 as 'Parents' Worship Day' in schools and colleges.

The Samiti noted that February 14 has come to be celebrated as Lovers Day or Valentine's Day in the country since the last some years. "This is a blindly aping the traditions of the western world, and it is giving rise to immoral activities free of self-restraint. This also is being used as an occasion to pester, torture, and inflict sexual harassment on ladies. In the name of parties, youngsters indulge in drinking, smoking, and consumption of drugs which turns into a vice with passage of time as per surveys conducted," the petition submitted by the Samiti stated.

"We see on several occasions that in order to attract the attention of girls, some people resort to zooming around in vehicles at high speed. Some social service organizations have been spreading awareness through awareness campaigns among the people against celebrating Valentine's Day. At the same time, they have been celebrating Parents' Worship Day programme in schools, colleges, or public places. The main aim of this programme is to give rise to a sense of reverence and respect for their parents among the children at a young age," the Samiti has explained.

The Samiti also wants the police officers to set up special police squads with the aim of acting against people involved with improper activities or conduct. They should also issue suitable directions to celebrate Parents' Worship Day in schools and college, it has urged.

The delegation which presented the petition comprised of Madhusudan Aiyar, Lokesh Kuthar, Sathish Dharmendra, Upendra Acharya, Revati Mogera, Leela Nayak and Prabhakar Naik.

In 2014, within six months of Prime Minister Narendra Modi taking office, the Union government had declared that December 25 would now be celebrated as “Good Governance Day”. Rather than celebrate the Christmas holiday, schools, colleges and government offices would need to stay open in order to mark this new government occasion. Facing a backlash, the Union government played down “Good Governance Day” in 2015.
After 'Christmas day' now the opposition 'Valentine's day'. In Meghalaya the denied the visa for Baptist world leader for 150 years of celebration.
The current offensive against the country's minuscule Christian community is part of a well-charted-out plan to ensure the ascendancy of the forces of Hindutva.
Activists of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and the Bajrang Dal in Gujarat have in recent times conveyed their intents and purposes through a chilling slogan: "Pahle Kasai, Phir Isai" (First Muslims; then Christians). The slogan serves a dual purpose - it seeks to smear an entire faith by equating its adherents to a traditionally stigmatised occupational grouping in India, and then to threaten it with extinction. (Kasai in Hindi means 'butcher' and the same word denotes Muslims.)
It seems these fanatic organisation seems to be having clear view of second season of 'Church attacks' once the purpose against Muslims served.
In US Parents' Day 2018 is a holiday celebrated, annually, on the fourth Sunday of July that combines the concepts of a Fathers' Day and Mother's' Day. It is a day that commemorates parenthood and appreciates all parents (including mothers, fathers, grandmothers and grandfathers, great-grandmothers and great-grandfathers, stepmothers and stepfathers, and foster mothers and fathers) as well as their contribution to society.
By opposing Valentine day celebration Hindu Janajagruti Samiti are they wanted Indians to follow US way of parents day once in year?
In their culture parents remembered only once a year?

If they have really respected their parents so many parents would not have dropped inside oldage home. What is required is to name and shame children who desert their parents at old age into some old age home.

On Valentines day we do not worshipped any God.. we only express our love by wishing or giving a small gift..or flowers as a token of love. It's not only for lovers, it's for all. Like we celebrate Mother's day, Father's Day or Children's Day. It doesn't mean we express love towards our loved ones once a year. It has nothing to with cast, religion, western or Indian. I am sure even if the Hindu samiti stops our youngsters who have broad mentality will still celebrate. Can they stop selling cards or roses in the flower shop on valentines day? reg. .. Parents Worship day. .. its written in all the religion holy books respect your mother and father. Not only one day but everyday.

You are very brilliant. Keep it up. Nice comment.

Parents are next to God. God given parents to look after His children in this world. And he also given command to children to love, respect and obey their parents. At the old age He commanded children to look after the parents though they are sick or become unsound mind due to old age..

Parents has to be loved every minute and all days. More greetings and celebrations they may not like.

As a mother I will not like. I want love and respect from my children all the days in my life.

Following the 'Parents day' is welcome but opposing Valentines day is wrong, in both cases Love involved.

But how the modern generation twisted the very core meaning of 'Love and Valentines day' and almost loosing its Significance.

It is the Feast day of Saint Valentine; the celebration of love (Agape love) and affection.

It is not very selfish worldly boy & girl friend love rather Godly love.

Agape Love means highest & purest form of Love, Charity, Sacrifice.

Some groups did not want New Years even to be celebrated in the city. Too hoots ! All those who wanted to celebrate, left with their family to neighboring city/state. Who lost ? The hotels, Event organizations ! Do you guys think these hotels, events management, are run by Western people ? You guys are utter fools if you think so.

Now, shops are decked up with symbolic items meant for V-Day. Will go and buy those items and burn them ? Please do. Because the shop keepers' purpose is met. If some young boy/girl passes a note fit for V-Day, how will you come to know ? Please wait in Kadri Park for them to come to exchange, you will be left in the lurch waiting till next day. Nevertheless, how can you asked the Commissioner and DSP to stop the celebrations as if its a national festival. You are indirectly giving importance to the day anyway.

Finally, Christians in the world will limit their celebration this year because of a certain religious season sets off. You won't have Western influenced community to blame for the celebrations this year.

Where is the state leadership to protect the citizens to celebrate Xmas, NY & V day? In other words the leadership is gutless or they are waiting for some issue to pop up & start BJP bashing . Do you honestly believe that that the thugs of these Hindu outfits will be able to “protect” Indian culture from being influenced from the western world?

Why do you loathe western culture so badly? Isn’t rule-of-law, democracy, civil rights, etc, by and large a product of the western world? Isn’t free-for-all internet a product of the western world?

Further, if an Indian girl wants to take a ride in her boy-friend’s bike, or eat a burger with him or light a cigarette with him, what is your problem? Doesn’t she have an individual right to choose her own lifestyle?
