Mumbai, Feb 16: Malathi Chittala aged 84, wife of Kannada author late Yashwanth Chittala under pen name 'Purushotham', passed away at Leelavathi Hospital here on Thursday morning, February 15 after a brief illness.

Malathi was the backbone for the literary work of late Yashwanth.

Yashwanth who was a teacher at Bada school, Karwar for some time had fallen in love with his student Malathi and had married her.

She was residing with her son Dr Ravindra Chittala and was known as Akka among her friends and relatives.

She has left behind two sons, large number of literature fans, friends and relatives.
