Police Kill Two Chhota Rajan Gangsters in Mumbai

MUMBAI, Aug 8: Two alleged members of the Chhota Rajan gang were killed in a shoot-out here on Friday afternoon, a senior police official said.

The gangsters, Mahesh Makwana and Ramu Gupta, were killed in an exchange of fire in suburban Pant Nagar, Additional Commisioner of Police (Crime) Deven Bharti said.

Acting on a tip-off, officials from the crime branch were waiting for the duo near the BEST depot at Pant Nagar and when they arrived ordered them to surrender, he said.

"They fired two rounds at our officials and they returned fire in which both were killed," Bharti said.

Two pistols were recovered from the duo. They were associated with Vicky Malhotra, an arrested member of the Rajan gang, a senior crime branch official said.

Makwana had multiple cases of murder and attempt to murder registered against him and also had been charged under the stringent MCOCA in one case, he said.

Gupta had been convicted in a 1996 murder case, but absconding since 2004 when he jumped parole, the official said.

Gupta had cases of extortion pending against him in Pune, he said.
