Mangaluru: Ola, Uber operators threaten indefinite strike if demands not met

Mangaluru, Feb 27: Dakshina Kannada District Online Taxi Drivers and Owners Association on Tuesday, February 27 announced that they would go on indefinite strike from next week if their demands were not met.

Addressing media here, president of the association B K Imthiyaz said, "Online taxis Ola and Uber are actively operating from the past three years here. Companies are luring youth to operate Ola and Uber taxis with attractive offers. Most of their offers which look attractive fool the youth. This has severe impact on those who believe them and operate taxis as they have to repay loans taken for taxis. The companies have signed deals with Tata and Hyundai and increased the number of taxis which have put the present operators in trouble.

"Online taxi operators are in huge trouble because of frequent changes in Ola and Uber rate plan and deduction in the incentives to the operators. We want uniformity in the incentives for the operators.

"If we visit companies taking our demands, we will be terminated and also threatened by their security staff. They give fake offers and target youths to join as Ola and Uber operators. But offers and incentives are not in favour of the operators which makes it difficult for the operators to repay the loans.

"We demand the withdrawal of additional vehicles and also an agreement for uniformity in rate plan. We also want an agreement which will guarantee us security as we are harassed even when we work for 24 hours a day facing many hurdles.

"If our demands are not met within a week, then Ola and Uber operators will go on indefinite strike," warned Imthiyaz.

Vice-president Munavar Kutthar, general secretary Saadiq Kannur and others were present.

    Now a days many Ola and Uber taxi drivers are restoring the dirty tricks of some of the Mangalore Taxi and Auto drivers are usually do with hapless passenger. Many times they charged more than the Meter reading amount saying that the destination shown in the App is different . Many times they cancelled the trip by using passenger mobile and continued the trip with the same car switch off the Taxi Operators App. While reaching the destination they demand more money especially night ride to Airport. I have registered the and apprised the case to Ola and Uber company by sending email.
    Why you are not raising the voice against the Airport Taxi Operator?
    Let hundred thousand of new driver join the Ola and Uber taxi service nobody is going loose the income if the driver is prompt in dealing and service. In fact more common people will explore the facility and common man will benefit.

    Do your demands include , opening the airport to Ola and UBER or not ? Uber and Ola operators would be benefitted if it is removed from the clutches of Airport Taxi Union ....who are swindling the customers as of now. This is an open robbery going on at in Mangalore Airport.

    During the initial stages the operators also have played game with the company .Many Operators who are owners of Taxi also just start GPS on .Peg the message as started the journey with Passenger and took some ride for personal use and claimed as actual journey .
    Also some operators just travelled in a scooter along with the mobile in which OLA App with GPS has been installed and showed as actual travel by their Taxi and claimed the incentive and plus additional bonus ( as per the rule if the driver makes more than some 10 or 12 rides per day he gets additional bonus)
    Now the Company has come to know about the tricks of the operators .More over they want to make OLA more and more popular by having more players
    This ultimately becomes just like a Ponzi scheme for Owners
    But for Passengers very good rates will come down

    Same way Mr Modi also promised many attractive offers like 15 lakhs in every Indian citizens account, Black money, Jan lokpal bill etc.

    After winning the 'CROWN' he forgot all the promises. He didnt fulfilled any one of them.

    But he kept only one promise "NAA Khaavunga aur naa khane doonga".

    As per his promise he reduced all the subsidies. And increased (doubled) tax in the name of GST.

    Now he only eats mushroom worth Rs. 30,000 each, rest of all middle class Indians are struggling to have minimum food and wear minimum cloth.

    I think, If the offers and incentives are not in favor of Operators they are free to leave. However false promises by organisation/s can be looked in to, backed by proof that legal system of our country accept.
    Business can not be one-way/sustainable without mutual trust (Management and staff/operatives ) up course keeping customer satisfied.

    Nobody is forcing you to be an OLA or UBER operator. Same as buying a lottery or consuming alcohol.

    You cannot blame the lottery scheme or the alcohol manufacturers if you lose money or your health.

    You have willingly signed the contract and now what is the point in complaining. The public is very happy with additional vehicles available. Therefore we have no complaints...............sorry

    Taxi and auto drivers in Mangalore must mend their ways. Set your meters to reasonable agreed rate as Ola/Uber vehicles do, else you will lose even customers in additions to the youth drivers now that are lost to Uber/Ola.

    Taxi association cannot hold driving vehicles job as their birth right. Anybody can join an organization, anybody can apply for job of their choice. Don't behave like private bus owners who ply right in-front of a KSRTC bus and all passengers are bundled into it even there is no space while the government bus runs at its schedule with/without passengers. Taxi drivers charge two-way charges for a drive to the airport/railway station while Ola/Uber charges as per meter distance.

    The public will give you support if you are just. When you loot at your will, you will not be supported but people will book online taxis.
