Mangaluru, Mar 1: The department of PU education in the state has made elaborate arrangements all over the state to conduct second year PU examination beginning Thursday March 1 in a proper way. As many as 38,633 students from Dakshina Kannada district will be appearing for the examination, which has the potential to decide their future course.

The district administration is fully geared to see that the examinations are held without any hitch. CCTV cameras have been fitted in all examination centres and tight security around these centres has been arranged. Designated officials have collected papers relating to individual examination centres from the office of the deputy director in PU education department, and it is ensured that examinations are conducted in a systematic manner at all these centres.

19,567 male and 19,066 female students will be appearing for this examination from the district. 34,863 among them are regular students, 1,400 are repeaters, while 2,370 are appearing as private candidates. The split up figures of students in different categories are 4,901 in arts, 16687 in science, and 17,045 in commerce.

Deputy director of PU education in the district, Thimmayya, said that the department is fully equipped to hold examinations in all the 54 centres in Dakshina Kannada district in a systematic manner under the guidance of district deputy commissioner. He said that principals, block education officers, and tahsildars will be overseeing the examination.

Head of the department of psychiatry at Kasturba Medical Collelgel Hospital here, Dr Keshava Pai K, said that a minimum of six hours of sleep is needed for students during examinations and that consumption of food should also be given sufficient importance. He felt that the parents can play a stellar role in boosting confidence of their children by not infusing sense of inferiority complex among them. He felt that Yogasanas, meditation and frequent breaks of five minutes help in studies.

In general, the students should not forget to carry their hall tickets and other things to the examination hall, and never to allow confusion to crop up at the last minute. Losing of sleep at the last minute for studies can have adverse effect on health. As examinations begin at 10.15 am, students should reach the examination centres early. The parents can do their bit by not pressurizing the children to reach a target o so many marks. Increased pressure on mind can induce frequent visits to the toilets, experts say.

Students in Udupi ready for exams

A total of 16,074 students will be appearing for PU examination in Udupi district. Out of them 14,550 are regular students. As many as 7,817 boys and 8,257 girls will write the exams.

Students of 104 pre-university college students will write exams at 27 centers in the district.

As many as 4,528 students are from Kannada medium colleges, while 6,085 students are from English medium colleges.

The split up figures of students in different categories are 1,647 in arts, 5,721 in science, and 8,706 in commerce.
