Udupi, Mar 2: An outstanding peformance by aspiring singer Pallavi R Manipal won her the title trophy of the second season of ‘Voice of Karavali - 2018', while Vijayalakshmi Mettinahole walked away with the 'People's Choice Singer' title at the grand finale of the singing competition held at Valentine Compound, opposite City Center in Brahmavar here recently.
The singing realty show was organized by by Rotary Brahmavar in association with ‘Being Social’ and Daijiworld.
Udupi Shravya Basri, Vijayalakshmi Mettinahole, Pratap C R Koppa, Prajna Balkuru, Ambarish B H Hosangadi, Shahina Saligrama, Shainy Pereira Mangaluru, Bhagya Shri Bailuru, Akash Hebbar Kodavoor, Pallavi R Manipal, Parikshit Poonja Mangaluru and Supritha U B Udupi were the top 13 finalists who entered the grand finale to engage in the musical battle.
Bhagya Shri Bailuru, Shravya Basri and Supritha U B Udupi stood third, fourth and fifth respectively in the scores.
Winner Pallavi R Manipal received the winner’s trophy with Rs 15,000 cash prize and certificate. 'People's Choice Singer' award winner Vijayalakshmi Mettinahole took home Rs 10,000 along with an attractive trophy and certificate.
The third, fourth and fifth place winners received Rs 5,000, Rs 3000 and Rs 2000 respectively.
Pallavi R Manipal, one of the top five finalists of the first season of 'Voice of ‘Karavali', has participated in many singing reality shows. The budding singer, created magic on stage with her singing prowess in the first two rounds.
In the first round, she sang the romantic track ‘Hai Rama Ye Kya Hua’ from Hindi movie ‘Rangeela’ and in the second round, she chose the song ‘Hele Kogile Impagala’ from Kannada movie ‘Nammoora Mandara Hoove’. Her confidence and talent helped her make way way to the finale and the audience’s heart.
Another aspiring singer Vijayakshmi Mettinahole, who was praised by the gathering, sang ‘Amma Ninna Mareyadante Nannanomme Harasu Thaye’. Her melodious voice and humble attitude was well appreciated by the audience.
The audience, which was given five minutes to send SMS, to pick their favorite contestant as 'People's Choice Singer', picked Vijayakshmi Mettinahole.
One of the top finalists Vishwatha Bhat was unable to attend the final round due to health issues.
Over 282 interested contestants registered their names for audition. Out of the 152 contestants who went through the auditions, 13 made it to the grand finale.
The event was judged by versatile singer and Kannada music director from Udupi, Yashwanth Acharya and noted singer Vidwan Ashok Acharya Saibrakatte. Both gave scores, comments and guided the contestants to improve their singing based on the performances.
On the audience’s request, Yashwanth Acharya performed a devotional song 'Neene Rama Neene Shama' accompanied by contestants. Ashok Acharya rendered a solo devotional song melodiously. ‘Voice of Karavali’ season-1 winner Rajath Mayya caught the pulse of youth by singing 'Yare Neenu Roja Hoove' from Kannada film 'Naanu Nanna Henthi'.
Popular VJ Avinash Kamath entertained and captivated the audience throughout the show mingling well with the judges, contestants and audiences.
Special prizes were given to lucky winners in the audience. Hundreds of music lovers witnessed the musical night.
There was a formal stage function, before the final round. Former assistant governor of district 3180 Rtn B M Bhat inaugurated the finale by lighting the lamp.
Addressing the gathering, B M Bhat said, “Rotary Brahmavar has been rendering social service, since 45 years. This club is being recognized by the public due its image. Rotary Brahmavar works for health, education and community development. It has been conducting free mental health awareness campaign every month and providing treatment for the poor. It is bearing expenses of Rs 6-7 lac per year for medicines. Thousands of people receive benefits. Rotary Brahmavar is now doing a good job by providing a good platform for aspiring singers, which will help them to move forward to state level and national level singing shows.”
Chandra Nayari, assistant governor, Rotary Udupi district wished the best to all the contestants.
A distinguished bhagavatha (singer) of Yakshagana popularly known as ‘Ganasarathi’ Raghavendra Acharya was conferred with ‘Rotary Person of the Year 2017-18’ award. He was felicitated on the occasion for his remarkable achievements in Yakshagana. He sung a few lines of Devi Mahathme on audience’s demand.
Former president Alwyn Andrade rendered the vote of thanks.
Rtn Shridhar Acharya, president, Rotary Club Brahmavar, Rtn Ashok Shetty, Amrit Shenoy of Being Social, Hafeez Rehman, head of Malabar Gold Udupi, director Mohammed Zeran, Rtn Ganesh Upadhya, secretary of Rotary club Brahmavar and Sujatha Andrade were also present.
Rtn Arur Thimmappa Shetty compered the formal stage function.
