Udupi, Aug 20: Two students belonging to a college in the city drowned in the famous Nayarkere near Brahmagiri here on Wednesday August 21 evening.
The deceased have been identified as Ibadulla (19), a resident of Nayarkere and Shanawaz (19), a resident of Udyavar. They were the students of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) College.
Both the students who were good friends, went for swimming in the deep waters of Brahmagiri Nayarkere on Wednesday evening. Ibadulla whose house is located in the same vicinity had called his close friend Shanawaz from Udyavar to his house since it was a holiday for college following nation-wide bundh.
Only a little later, the neighbours heard the boys shouting for help. But by the time, they could do anything to rescue them, both of them had met a watery grave.
Fire brigade personnel fished out their bodies after a prolonged search.
Deputy superintendent-in-charge M B Nagaraj and town sub-inspector Prakash too arrived on the spot.
A case has been registered in the town police station in this regard.
