Revanth Reddy to join Congress’s ‘Goy Rakhon Yatra’ in Goa

Panaji, Oct 11: Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy will participate in the Congress’s ongoing ‘Goy Rakhon Yatra’ (Save Goa campaign) in Goa on Sunday, a party leader said.

Reddy is expected to arrive in Goa in the afternoon and join the yatra in the Cuncolim and Quepem assembly constituencies in the evening, Goa Congress president Girish Chodankar told. Both constituencies are represented by Congress legislators – Leader of the Opposition Yuri Alemao from Cuncolim and Altone D’Costa from Quepem.

The Goa Congress welcomed Reddy through a post on its official Facebook page ahead of the assembly elections scheduled for early next year. Party sources said he was also expected to pay tributes at the Chieftain’s Memorial in Cuncolim, which commemorates the first revolt against foreign powers during Portuguese rule in Goa. However, his detailed schedule had not been formally confirmed.

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, who was earlier expected to participate in the yatra on Sunday, has cancelled his visit, a senior party leader said. The cancellation comes amid an ongoing agitation in New Delhi demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

The Congress has said its doors are open to like-minded political parties ahead of the Goa assembly elections. It has already announced an alliance with the Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP), which won one seat in the 2022 assembly elections.

Last month, the Goa Forward Party (GFP) announced an alliance with the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party under the banner ‘Goa First’. However, differences emerged within the grouping after GFP president Vijai Sardesai called for a broader Opposition alliance that would include the Congress.
