Bengaluru, Mar 25: Inspector general of police D Roopa Moudgil who was in the news for exposing the alleged VIP treatment to AIADMK leader Sasikala in Bengaluru central prison, has reportedly refused to accept 'Namma Bengaluru Award' conferred by non-profit organization Namma Bengaluru Foundation.

In a letter addressed to Namma Bengaluru Foundation, the senior officer of home guard and civil defense stated that her 'conscience does not allow' her to receive the high cash reward offered to her.

Her letter read, "Every government servant is expected to maintain neutrality and equidistance from all quasi-political bodies and associations that have even the bare minimum political overtone. Only then can a public servant maintain a clean and fair image in the eyes of the public."

It becomes all the more relevant now in the view of the ensuing elections, she added. While thanking the organization for identifying people with valuable contributions and presenting awards to them, she said she will always cooperate with the foundation in public-centric initiatives backed by social concern but apologized for her inability to accept the award.

She was awarded the President's Medal for meritorious service last year.

The foundation had formed an experts committee headed by founder president of Microland, Pradeep Kar, having 23 members, which was entrusted with the task of choosing five persons in different departments out of the final list of 41, for the award. Roopa was one of the five persons picked for these awards.
