Mangaluru, Mar 26: Deputy commissioner of police (DCP), Hanumantharaya, has instructed officials of police stations to respond immediately to sensitive cases which the aggrieved women and dalits may bring to them. He said that it is necessary to listen to their grievances and take remedial steps without delay.

He was speaking after chairing the monthly SC/ST grievances meeting held at the office of the police commissioner here on Sunday march 25.

Answering a query raised by a dalit leader, the DCP said that it is not justifiable to make people to wait till the inspector, whenever he is not available in the station, returns. He asked the people to discuss problems with the official who is in-charge of the station then, and take steps accordingly.

Dalit leader, Jagadish Pandeshwar, claimed that a woman had been attacked by four to five persons near Padavinangady in the city on March 11 and that the personnel of the rural police station here had not properly responded when she visited the station to file complaint. He said that a case was registered only after the DCP intervened.

The DCP assured that the issue will be investigated by the ACP.

Dalit leader, S P Anand, sought action against fraudsters who collected money from students by holding out lure of employment, taking the students to New Mangalore Port Trust, creating fake documents to give a feeling of bagging employment, and then cheating them. The DCP said that the issue has been taken up with all seriousness and asked the concerned to file written complaint.

Jagadish Pandeshwar mentioned that a complaint has been filed against the reporter of a newspaper for threatening Jayaraj Ullal, who runs a massage parlour, and demanding money from him. The DCP asked the concerned to register a case and undertake investigation. At the same time, he asked the massage parlours to follow conditions like strictly abiding by rules, installation of CCTV cameras, possessing of trade licence et.

Girish Kumar said that traffic snarls have become a routine at Thokkottu, but the traffic police there, instead of clearing the traffic block, are found to be busy with their cellphones. The DCP said he would pass on necessary instructions to the police.

Raghuveer Sooterpet reminded that a close vigil should be kept on the movement of rowdy sheeters in view of approaching election, and Goonda Act should be imposed wherever necessary. The DCP said that the police commissioner has already issued necessary instructions in this connection and the needful is being done.

Dalit leaders asked for strict steps to be taken against fish trucks spilling stinking water all along the road. The DCP said that steps have already be taken.
