Bantwal, Mar 27: The Supreme Court, on Monday March 26, granted anticipatory bail to three of the persons who have been named as accused in the murder of Karopady gram panchayat vice president, Abdul Jaleel Karopady.

P Dinesh Shetty, Vinod Kumar Shetty, and Pradeep Shetty, accused in the above case, had been denied bail by the state high court through a verdict delivered on January 18 this year. The accused had filed appeal against this order.

The bench of the Supreme Court presided over by Justices Adarsh Kumar Goel and R F Nariman sanctioned bail as above.

Advocate representing the state, Joseph Aristotle, argued that the entire conspiracy will be revealed if all the accused are subjected to investigation as the murder of Jaleel happened in broad daylight. He argued that bail as prayed for should not be granted.

Senior advocate, Basavaprabhu Patil, pointed out that the police have so far not filed charge sheets against the three accused, relating to the murder which took place on April 20, 2017 about which complaint was filed in Vittal polcie station. He said that other accused in the case are already out on bail. Although Aristotle tried to counter this argument by saying that the police have already requested the high court for permission to file additional charge sheet, the bench went ahead with sanctioning of anticipatory bail.

The bench had recently rejected the appeal filed by A Mohammed Anwar, brother of Abdul Jaleel Karopady, seeking to cancel bail sanctioned to the other accused in the case, although the complaint was filed under Karnataka Control of Organized Crimes Act.
