Rapidly developing airport

Mangaluru International Airport is considered as the airport that is getting developed at a rapid pace in the whole of south India. So far till April in the period of 2017-18, 23.5 lac passengers have travelled through this airport. This year the aim is to attract nearly 30 lac passengers. Every day 30 to 40 international, domestic and commercial flights land and take off from this airport. There is a 30% increase in the cargo handling at the airport.

To the query of journalists regarding the increase of the number of flights to Gulf region, V V Rao said, "Respective airline authorities have to decide on this matter taking into consideration the density of passengers."

Jasmine fragrance in the airport

The aroma of fresh Jasmine flowers welcomes the passengers as they enter the Mangaluru International Airport. Machines which automatically dispense the fragrance of Jasmine are placed in strategic points inside the airport. The aim of this facility is to spread the fame of 'Mangaluru Jasmine', which is world renowned, as per the information given by V V Rao.

Steps are taken to display portraits depicting the regionalism and culture of Mangaluru on the walls inside and outside the airport. The cost of this is estimated at Rs1 crore. Passengers can get a birds view of the beautiful culture of Mangaluru in the airport itself.

This award was given in the survey that was carried out in February by the central government authority for the airports which handle 15 to 50 lac passengers in a year. Thiruvananthapuram and Gauhati have bagged the second and third place respectively," disclosed V V Rao.

The neighbouring state of Kerala has four International standard airport comparing to Karnataka's only two.
In Hyderabad Karnataka citizens have to go to Andhra Pradesh. In Belgaum though airport exist hardly serves the purpose. Uttar Kannada people have to travel all the way to Goa.

Why Karnataka can't spend wisely Rs132 crores with some private partners like Kerala and connect the state?

This airport can't even have full length of landing strip for new generation aircrafts. Why government is dumping the money in drains?

Need of the hour is a public transport. A bus terminal at the current parking location. A 28 seater minibus 24X7, they can depart as soon as it is full. Pramod could bring few KSRTC buses to Udupi why not to Bajpe airport by MP for a change ?.
Further departure road from Airport is pathetic. Entrance to the Airport down the hill deserve better landscaping and should look like an entrance to international airport from the main road. Now its a cluster of few goodangadies!!
At the car park, lawn / greenery and plants are maintained in lethargic manner, wonder who is in charge of landscaping maintenance.
Okay, our firebrand MP is not interested and in deep sleep....he is elected on religion line and Modi wave though lacks education and efficiency! Someone should put pressure on the central government!
Airport Director at least should take a walk around car park, taxi mafia, while taking a drive to duty should look outside the window and observe how to improve the standard of departure/ drop off, arrival pick up.....how the avoid deafening horn sound of vehicles due to blockage since there is no straight movement path for arrival and departure - awkward U- turn ...during rainy season its a nightmare.
There is no restaurant after check in / security which can serve idle, vada or dosa!!! or any south Indian food!!
Plus point is, customs people are good and polite, but they are space starved...some times 2 to 3 flight arrive at same time and it takes well over an hour to screen personal belongings with only one scanner available!!!
Above all, miracle is airport gets several awards....imagine the situation of rest of the airports....!!! When minister /VIP come here they are surrounded by chelas and lickers keeping them busy and block their view!!

I feel in next 5 year its very difficult accomadate increasing flights as well as passenger in MANGALORE AIRPORT.Its one of the fastest growing airport in INDIA. AIRPORT AUTHORITY should
plan accordingly to have bigger alternative airport near by MANGALORE. Near PADUBIDRI is ideal location convenient to all part of DAKSHINA KANNADA. If our leaders of dakshina kannada demand this proposal with GOVT,it can be possible.

Why artificial Jasmine fragrance in the region which grows Jasmine. This is typical for AAI - do it the easier way. They should look at Mumbai Airport which has plenty of greenery (not artificial) and other pleasant things.

money can be put to better use of airport facilities like invest In public transport and make airport any time of the day as user friendly. stop taxi mafia business in Mangalore airport. Taxi contractor should be thrown out from the airport for good. Contracts should be given to Mangaloreans and not to migrated immigrants to the state.
Invest in making greenery around the Airport by planting trees, invest in rain water harvesting to water the plants round the clock. Build fountains, parks along the parkways.

Need of the hour is Run-Way and not RUN-AWAY!!! It is the most dangerous airport within India and perhaps in the whole world. A few months back I read, it could be Daijiworld or some other portals that Mangaluru airport runway had made still shorter for some other purpose!!!! In case of Emergency (God Forbid ) are they going to use extended terminal? And outside the terminal, Airport Authority of Mangalore have posted the Hindi Speaking vultures to terrify & loot the Tuluva- Kannadigas without any proper and written guidelines regarding Parking.

Mangalore airport has the worst transportation facilities in India. I believe there is a mafia which controls transportation. Firstly the airport authority should stop collecting deposits from private taxi owners and open up the taxi service, so that app based and tourist companies can run taxi and transportation services. Bus service should also start from the airport to Mangalore city, Udipi and other important places like Puttur, Moodbidri etc. Priority should be given to transportation first before everything else.

Mini bus service between the airport gate and Bajpe bus stand, if not to the city may be a relief to many. As of now the private operators, i.e. auto rickshaws/tourist cars are the beneficiaries, charging exorbitant amount. Alternatively, RTO can fix rates of autos from airport to various destinations, as auto rickshaws run without meters.
As the air traffic has increased, why is the road transport department silent to connect the airport with destinations, e.g. Bajpe, Mangalore etc.. At the old airport, air passengers found it convenient to proceed to their destination, as there was a line of auto rickshaws also bus route 22.

Please improve the services at Baggage collection area.. Speed up the process.. Many times its very hard to get trolleys. Many a time those coolies holding the trolleys to give those who give tips. Also add more CCTV camera in the customs area so that the officers cannot go beyond camera vision. Also add camera near the bank counter. Many a times this bank counter near customs area don't give any receipt and also giving very poor exchange rates. These points help all the passengers further to enjoy the Mangalore airport services more transparently and professionally.

Are you aware that the coolies have to pay a daily hafta to the CISF & AAI to enter the airport on a daily basis. All those hotel staff, bank personnel who go there for marketing also have to pay hafta. I think the present rate is presently Rs. 200/- per day.

Extending for the benefit of whom ? Is it includes any social concern ?

Many school children come to view the take off and landing of flights. No clear facility done so far. At least a raised viewing lounge could have been constructed for the children and visitors near Adyapadi school side. Passengers will come and go. Why Investing so much there ? Do passengers need any more entertainment required there for a short period ?

Why buses are not plying till the Airport gates from Mangalore ? Purposefully helping the hawker cabs and parking looters. Concerned please look upon.
