Bengaluru: Poll-time traffic chokes electoral portal, voters unable to see list

Bengaluru, Apr 6 (DHNS): It's been an endless wait for those trying to verify their names online as the official website of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Karnataka, ceokarnataka.kar.nic.in, has become slow. There is a sudden increase in traffic on the portal, with elections nearing.

Suhas Nerurkar, a resident of Whitefield, had problem enrolling himself in the voters' list. After making several trips to the office of the assistant electoral registration officer (AERO), Suhas managed to get his name enrolled, but he is unable view or download the list from the website.

"First, officials from the AERO's office were not forthcoming in helping us enrol our names, they always found some mistake or the other to delay the process. Finally, when enrolment happened, I am unable to see my name in the list. Since morning I am trying to open the website, it is very slow. Either it ends up as time out or does not respond," Nerurkar said.

Similarly, Valli Srinivasan, a resident of Kasavanahalli, faced problems enrolling her name in the voters' list.

"I had to do a lot of running around to enrol my name. Now that I have submitted all the details, I am unable to see them on the website. I tried logging in, but the page does not open at all," she said.

P G Bhat, a citizen activist creating awareness on voting, said the name, age, polling station and other details of the voters are different in ceokarnataka.kar.nic.in and the national voters' service portal as both the websites are not synchronised.

Suryasen A V, the joint CEO, said ever since the election dates were announced, the traffic on the website has drastically increased. On March 28 alone, there were more than 40,000 persons visiting the website.

"At the moment, we have five servers handling the website and in the next two days, we are planning to incorporate five more. Hopefully, the website should work faster," he said.
