Mangaluru: Hundreds of students form human chain to create awareness on voting

Mangaluru, Apr 6: Hundreds of students along with Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) officials, Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) committee and Anti-Pollution Drive (APD) Foundation formed a human chain at Lalbagh here on Friday April 6 to create awareness among voters ahead of the state Assembly elections.

Zilla panchayat CEO Dr M R Ravi along with MCC commissioner Mohammed Nazeer flagged off the campaign and unveiled the badge which says 'Every vote counts'.

Students and officials were seen holding placards creating awareness on importance of casting votes.

Zilla panchayat CEO Dr M R Ravi said, "As election is round the corner, today over 500 students came together to create awareness among the people, especially the youth, to flock to polling booths and cast their votes and be part of the nation building process."

Founder of APD Foundation Abdul Rehman said, "We have formed the human chain to create awareness among the voters of Mangaluru and sensitize youths on the importance of casting their votes. Exercising one's franchise is not only a constitutional duty but also our responsibility."

The polling for the Karnataka Assembly elections will be held in a single phase on May 12, and the counting will be on May 15.

    Please also create awareness of magic EVMs. File a complaint promptly if button pressed for one party but vote goes to another party.
    Please also create awareness of checking till the last date if name is still on voter list or not. If deleted, file a complaint without fail !

    now a days EC commission better to keep a check in churchs and masjids, where maximum canvass in person to vote congress ....severe punishment on violation of Election Code must be levied on these community centers rather to levy on a poor artist(comedy), who shown the funny matter which in reality a great leader funned!!
    Temples of-course nothing can be spoken since its a secular and Hindus as re divided and Temples get immediate notice on any small talk of canvas...feel pity on Hindus, who divided for selfishness and united for only 'Bhojans'....Temples must learn lesson/teachings from Church and Masjid for survival of their faith and unity...democracy is for all citizens, better implemented properly

    WHY VOTE IS IMPORTANT ?While there are some who genuinely cast their vote, many people sit back and relax on voting day, and others are cajoled into voting for particular candidates. The importance of voting is lost amongst the hustle and bustle of city life. While everyone sits and complains about this and that, and makes suggestions that the government should change this and that, the elections come and go without half the population paying attention.

    The highest recorded voter turnout in India was recorded in 2014 for the Lok Sabha elections at 66.4%. That means close to half the population does not exercise their right to vote.

    After 69 years of Independence, India has not proved itself to have control and order. The fault lies with both the leaders and the people. People are driven by religious beliefs rather than what is good for the country. We should choose that which drives the country forward, while still upholding the Indian tradition. But politics is wound up in frivolous matters rather than paying more attention to uplifting the poor, helping the aged, education, water, preserving the environment, agriculture, roads, planned urban development, and so on.
    Your vote counts - Every vote counts. Though it seems like an endless sea of people are there to vote, every vote counts. When the national attitude changes from thinking “my vote doesn’t make a difference”, then the numbers increase and a multitude of people voting will make the difference. The responsibility lies on every individual.

    NOTA - The Government of India has made the provision for voters to exercise their vote even if they are not happy with any of the candidates.
    NOTA stands for None of the Above and this is an important vote to cast for those who aren’t satisfied by any of the parties standing. Voting NOTA expresses that none of the candidates are good enough. NOTA votes count, however in case the majority of the votes are NOTA, then the party with the next majority will come to power

    I 100% agree with all the students, voting is everyone rights, request you first not to fall and get trap by fake news and hate mesages in soicial media, in 2014 most of the people voted for one man and his deliveries as on day is zero, all are fake promises,so pls be carefull this time.

    till 2014 India had the "India Shining " tag now it is lost. BJP had manifested for development but they are only playing relgion politics. can you list the developments in Karnataka yeddi had looted and was jailed. This amit shah himself said in rally.

    Human chain will be useful daily at peak hours in some junctions where in elderly people find difficult to cross roads.
    Awareness of casting vote is part of religious places..in churches..mosques briefing there in only to vote for congress. yeah silsila is from hey days.
