Bengaluru doctor complains about mosquitoes on Indigo flight, offloaded

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Apr 10: A passenger on Lucknow to Bengaluru Indigo flight was offloaded after he complained about mosquitoes in the flight, reports said.

The passenger from Bengaluru, Dr Saurabh Rai, said that the flight was full of mosquitoes and alleged that he was manhandled and threatened by the crew.

However, Indigo Airline maintained that Rai was offloaded because of his 'unruly behaviour'.

A statement issued by the airline on Monday said, "An IndiGo passenger, Saurabh Rai who was scheduled to fly this morning on 6E-541 from Lucknow to Bangalore, was offloaded on grounds of unruly behavior. Prior to take-off, Rai, expressed concerns regarding mosquitos on board. However, before the cabin crew on board could address his concerns, Rai aggressively expressed his annoyance and started to use threatening language."

"As the matter escalated after the closure of the aircraft doors, Rai attempted to instigate other passengers on board to damage the aircraft, and used words such as 'hijack'. Such actions are absolutely unacceptable, and there is zero tolerance for such threatening language on board an aircraft. Hence, keeping in mind applicable safety protocols, the crew apprised the pilot-in-command, who decided to offload Rai from the flight," the statement read.

"Customer satisfaction is core to our business. However, the safety and security of our passengers as well as colleagues is of primary concern. Therefore, any untoward conduct of this nature is of serious concern to us, and as a responsible corporate citizen we will take all necessary action to address this violation.

"Further, we would like to mention here that the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has prohibited disinfectant fumigation in aircraft while passengers are onboard. This order is currently being challenged by IndiGo before the NGT and the same is pending for adjudication," the airline added.

Rai however said, "The Indigo flight from Lucknow to Bengaluru was full of mosquitoes, when I raised objection, I was manhandled by the crew and offloaded from the aircraft, I was even threatened."

Following the incident, some of the Twitter users said that they too had faced mosquito problem on Indigo flights.

The union government on Tuesday ordered a probe into the incident.

The probe was ordered by minister of civil aviation and commerce and industry Suresh Prabhu.

"I have ordered an enquiry into the incident of off-loading passenger Dr Saurabh Rai by Indigo at Lucknow airport," Prabhu tweeted.

Very good union government. Order a probe into mosquitoes inside a plane and not against a MLA who has killed the father of the girl he raped.

There are enough mosquitoes in the hospitals. People come to be treated for one disease/ medical alignment and take home another deceases for free. First get rid of mosquitoes in the hospitals. These days hospitals & doctors are looting much more when compared to airlines. If any individual utters words or uses language that is not to be used on an airplane, please remember for safety of fellow passengers & the airport premise suitable action as per standard operating procedures will be taken. Ego and Safety cannot go together..!

NFS Rodrigues, Mangalore/Bangalore - Don't compare apple with oranges!!!! First of all if you wanted to be treated in Municipality hospital , where you expecting superspecility treatment is not possible!!!!pay more and get the luxury!!!!! Secondly, Indigo Airlines; This particular airlines acting as if they are belongs to "D" Company, this is not the first instance but there are several and this particular airlines always in the news for bad reason. I don't understand why people are still opt for Indigo!!!! Thirdly, since Dr. Saurabh Rai is a Medical practitioner, definitely he will think first regarding the health of himself and his co-passengers where he may be Question the crew with Authority but "D" Bhai Log won't like his concerns.

Doctors make noise when flights are full of mosquitoes but hospital full of mosquitoes or other infectious disease caused by the hospital, why are doctors quite.

Today you visit a hospital to be healed you return with ten other infections.

Why are doctors quite? Maybe this doctor did not get commision from Indigo.

Today if Indigo flights are bad, then blame the shameless customers who fly in them.

    Standard in India is poor,

God bless Air India/ indian airlines if Indigo takes over.

The flight charges are very high and it's their duty to make sure that the flight is clean and free of Mosquitoes. But no passenger can misbehave with the crew. The offloading was probably justified

Arrogance of Doctor. How can a Doctor provoke others and use bad language???? Usually the cabin crew are soft spoken, they never indulge in bad behavior until and unless some unruly EDUCATED passengers provoke them.
When there are mosquitoes in the hospitals usually it should not be, there is no big deal if Mosquitoes are there in the Aircraft.

@Kiran d souza, mangalore,we shouldnt comment relying on Indigo crew,We dont know exactly what happened.Still I dont think that doctor was so rude because of mosquitoes. He could have complained even later to the officials concerned.Still I find because he complained about mosquitoes ,is not a ground to offload him.Crew can be too rude and defend later with their own methods.we heard many times about such bahaviour of crew in the same airline and others too. Both have to show some sensibility.with force and hardness we reach nothing.

Indigo is notorious for misbehaving with the passengers. Close on the heels of a passenger being manhandled in Bombay recently followed by another incident, comes this one.
