Aichi-Nagoya, Oct 3: Indian archer Kumkum Mohod created history by winning the gold medal in the women's individual recurve event at the Asian Games 2026, becoming the first Indian woman to win the individual title in the discipline.

The 17-year-old secured the gold after defeating South Korea's Oh Yejin in a shootout in the final. The victory also earned India a quota place for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Mohod's triumph headlines India's action on the 14th day of the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. India had entered the day with 76 medals, including 17 gold, 25 silver and 35 bronze, and was placed fifth in the overall standings.

India has several medal opportunities on the final stretch of the Games. Golfer Pranavi Urs is among the athletes in contention, while the men's cricket team faces Pakistan in the gold-medal match. India's men's hockey team is also set to face Malaysia in the title clash.

The men's cricket final is scheduled to be a major highlight of the day after India reached the summit clash with a comprehensive win over Sri Lanka in the semifinal. Pakistan booked its place in the final after defeating Bangladesh.

India's men's hockey team will also be bidding for gold against Malaysia, adding another major medal opportunity as the Games approach their conclusion.

Mohod had already been part of India's historic women's recurve team gold alongside Ankita Bhakat and Kirti, which was India's first-ever gold in the women's recurve team event at the Asian Games.

With several medal events remaining, India will look to add to its tally and finish the Aichi-Nagoya Games strongly.
