Mangaluru, Apr 12: Sixteen students of Centre for Advanced Learning (CFAL), Mangaluru have been selected for the prestigious Kishore Vaignanik Protsahan Yojana' (KVPY) fellowship, informed Severine Rosario, coordinator, CFAL.
Addressing media persons here on Thursday April 12, Severine Rosario said, "KVPY is a scholarship exam conducted by the government of India to encourage the students of science stream. It is a proud moment for Mangaluru as 16 students of CFAL have got selected for the KVPY fellowship, among which CFAL student Prathyush has topped in the state and bagged all-India rank of 7."
She further said, "The 16 students selected for the KVPY fellowship are Anish Hebbar, Shreyas V Pai, Shreesha G Bhat, Ankush Moger, Sharaj K, Shravan Singh Mehra, Navaneesha, Vishnu Bharadhwaj, Rajath Rao, Unnathi Nayak, Samarth Bhat, Sourav V, Suraj S and Rashmi Kasangeri. These selected students have the opportunity to get direct admission into some of the most prestigious institutions in the country such as the Indian Institute of Science, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research and other institutions in basic sciences, besides receiving scholarships of Rs 80,000 to Rs 1,12,000 per annum."
KVPY which is one of the most prestigious examinations conducted in India is initiated and funded by the department of science and technology, government of India. The objective of the exam is to identify students with talents and aptitude for research, help them realize their academic potential, encourage them to take up research careers in basic science and ensure the growth of the best scientific minds of research and development in the country. These examinations require analytical skills and logical thinking - rote learning or memorization will not yield results. CFAL has a progressive record of nurturing KVPY scholars year after year with highest percentage, selections and ranks and the students have consistently attained the top ranks in Mangaluru.
After scrutiny of application forms and meeting the eligibility criteria for various streams, all eligible students are called for aptitude test conducted both in Hindi and English at different centers across the country. Based on their performances in this written examination, students with the highest scores are called for interview. Selected students are declared as 'Kishore Vaignani' and they are eligible for this national-level fellowship
