Panaji, Aug 30: State leader of opposition Manohar Parrikar on Saturday August 30 alleged that an Indian teenaged girl was handed over to a Brazilian national without following proper adoption rules. The same girl was later allegedly molested.
Discussing the cut-motion on the floor of the house during ongoing state legislative assembly session, Parrikar said that a 15-year-old girl was given for adoption to a Brazilian national without approval of the state committee on adoption.
"It was shocking... Now, it is brought to the notice that she was molested," Parrikar, former chief minister, said.
He said that the girl was given for adoption by a children's home run by another foreign national in the State
The former chief minister said that despite stringent children's Act in place in the state, such incidents are occuring due to laxity of the woman and child welfare department.
Parrikar said that 41 cases were booked under the children's Act, of which only eight were convicted, cutting a sorry figure of the implementation of the Act.
