About Ethel Prabhu

The late Ethel Prabhu did her under-graduation between 1968 and 1971 at St Agnes College, Mangaluru. This year marks 50 years after she first went to college. She was a teacher par excellence and was one of the first Indian women who went as a high school teacher when barely 24 to Hong Kong to teach English and Social Science in 1974. She taught at the St Joan of Arc School for three years before returning to India.

She was a closet entrepreneur who made handcrafted wines, pickles and preserves in order to earn extra money so that her family could have a better life. Her dream was to start her own food business by opting for voluntary retirement. But she could not realise the dream as she passed away soon after she turned 51, in 2001.

Women need be selected for whichever recognitions that are open in our Society for whatever good work they render in our every day life. Women are entrepreneurs in their own creativity of life, and whatever they render to our society is indeed remarkable and need be recognized.

We know late Ethel Prabhu very well. In fact, we happened to be in Mangalore when she breathed her lasts at a very young age, and we attended her funeral as well.

Best wishes to all those that are constantly following up the societal needs and wants, and their regular inputs are very much appreciated.

I was vert bad in academics, books used to never enter my head. Ethel teacher was my class teacher in Eighth standard.
I very well knew that I'm going to fail and lose a year. By then I had decided that I will discontinue my studies if I fail.
It is because of her I cleared my eight standard. After eight slowly I started to improve in my studies.
I owe a lot to her.
Education is not all about marks. Anyone can give admission to distinction students and get good results for the Institution.
But teachers like Mrs. Ethel Prabhu and Institutions like St Aloysius accommodate students who are poor in academics and help them grow. That is called a ""genuine institution", rest all are "genuine business".
Thank you teacher, I owe you my career.
