Mangaluru, Apr 16: Widespread rainfall early in the morning on Sunday April 15 and again in the evening cooled temperature a little in both Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.

The city as well as Puttur got rainfall for about two hours on Sunday morning. As rain coupled with thunder and lightning was experienced all over the coast, several areas plunged into darkness as electricity supply was disrupted. Compound wall of Mardhala government school near Kadaba collapsed due to rain. Programmes including religious ones and sports competitions and entertainment programmes undertaken by people and organizations at various places faced some problems.

For the day ending 8.30 am on Sunday, Puttur received highest rainfall of four cm in the state, while Subrahmanya got three cm rain.

The meteorological department has predicted cloudy weather to continue in coastal districts of Karnataka for three more days. During this period, a few areas might experience rainfall coupled with thunder.

Rains in other parts of Karnataka created havoc on Sunday with 10 persons dying due to lightening.

Rain occurs when the water held in warm, damp air condenses and falls. The primary difference between light rain and heavy rain is the amount of moisture that is present in the air mass, which is proportional to the size of the air mass. Typically, heavy rains are caused by pressure fronts, while lighter rains are caused by convective processes.
