Daijiworld Media Network - Hassan (SP)

Hassan, Apr 22: After it became clear that a police constable was supporting transportation of sand illegally, the accused was arrested. The accused happens to be Kumar, head constable of Belur police station in the district.

It is said that when the officials stopped a tipper that was transporting sand illegally at the check post near here on the night of Friday April 20, Kumar, who was seated inside the tipper, behaved rudely with them. Tipper driver, Devaraju, too stands booked and arrested.

The incident happened at around 10.45 pm at the election-related check post set up at Hagare near here. Even after the officials signalled the said tipper to stop, the driver tried to speed away. Reportedly, when the driver slowed down the vehicle at the check post, Kumar, who was inside, asked him to race ahead. The driver, who was in two minds and confused, stopped the tipper and tried to flee. Personnel on duty at the check post, revenue inspectors, Kantaraj, and Udeep, took the driver into custody.

Tahsildar, Umesh, said in his complaint that head constable, Kumar, who was inside the tipper in question, behaved in an offensive manner with him even after he introduced himself as the tahsildar. He said he later asked Halebeedu police to register case, noting that Kumar, being in a responsible position, was not expected to break the law and support illegal sand business. He felt that the fact that Kumar was accomapanying the tipper carrying sand in spite of being aware that a check post is functioning on the way, points to the possibility of him indulging in such things since long.

Tipper driver, Devaraju, confessed that Kumar was the one asked him to transport sand. The tipper belongs to Puttaswamy from Byadigere. Halebeedu police have registered a case and produced the accused in the court upon which both of them were remanded to judicial custody.
