Bangalore: Congress Infighting Continues - KPCC Presidentship Issue Far from Over

Bangalore, Sep 5: The KPCC presidentship issue, which appeared to have crystallized in favour of sidaramaiah, has not been resolved fully so far. Factionalism, lobbying and bickerings continue to haunt the selection process for this coveted post.

Behind-the-scene activities within the Congress party suddenly gained speed as soon the local leaders got the wind, that Siddaramaiah will lead the state unit. Lingayat leaders from north Karnataka are said to be lobbying hard against the move, through union home minister Shivraj Patil. Several state leaders spearheaded by Dharam Singh too have continued with their stand, that this post should not be given to a migrant.

The high command does not want any fissures or split in the state unit of the party at present, particularly because of the increasing clout of the BJP in the state and the bypolls and Lok Sabha elections which are on the anvil. They therefore, want to consult all leaders of consequence from the state, to try to hammer out differences if any, and select an unanimous candidate.

Towards achieving this, the top leadership has been summoning state leaders to Delhi to hold consultations and advise them to unite for the sake of the party. Sonia Gandhi, who has already spoken to Siddaramaiah, R V Deshpande and D K Shivkumar, wants to meet other state leaders. As a result, Jaffer Shariff is already in Delhi to hold discussions, while Dharam singh, D B Chandre Gowda,H K Patil and some other leaders are expected to go to Delhi on Friday September 5.

It is learnt, that veteran state leaders like B K Hariprasad, Veerappa Moily, Oscar Fernandes and Margaret Alva are strongly in favour of handing over the reins to a person who has been in the party for long and sincerely worked for its progress. Their main grouse against Siddaramaiah is that he is a new comer into the party, and his elevation to the top post in the state will ruffle the sentiments of long time loyalists. Hence, the Congress high command might buy some time, to allow the dust to settle, before making a final announcement.

Lingayat leaders from north Karnataka, who met under the leadership of ex-minister and MLA A B Malakareddy, have sent their opinion to the All India Congress Committee through a fax. They have explained, that the Congress needs to make efforts to win over the confidence of Lingayat community from the state, particularly so as B S Yeddyurappa, himself a Lingayat, has become the state chief minister. The leaders have pointed out, that none of the Lingayat leaders have been given any important posts in the state unit of the party, and making siddaramaiah from Kuruba community the president, will almost certainly wean away the Lingayat votebank.

Winston D'souza, you have a clear point. Vote bank politics must stop. All political party, whether, BJP or congress must strive towards new horizon, wherein more stress will be given to class based politics rather than caste based politics. That is the only way to address India’s secularism and social transformation in to a developed country.

Without oneness in congress leaders and without bold, young and courageous leader, congres will not survive in Karnataka. Congress oldies should sit and finalise one dynamic leader who is able to take the party to win. Any differences in the party should be sorted out with discussion with higher ups.

If Siddaramaiah became the President of KPCC, definitely it will become a right choice because in the present situation there is no substitute for Siddaramaiah. He is one of the clean, straight forward, highly experienced, corruption free and good hearted political leader.

Even if KPCC people neglect Siddaramaiah, there is nothing to loose for him, definitely he will emerge and make his identity in a more reliable way in the comming days of Karnataka politics. "Tiger always find his food through hunt irrespective of the forest in their own (dignified) way"

People are loosing faith in the Congress all over India due to the irresponsible statements from Congress & it's allies like Lalu Yadav, Ram Vilas Paswan & also newly added Amar Singh & also their appeasing policy with anti nationals for vote bank. Their statements directly affetcs the Congress in each & every aspect.

Also most of the younger generation inclined towards BJP irrespective of religion & in city limits it's BJP which enjoys most support due to educated people supporting it. If the Congress leaders fight like this who will vote for it.

Congress doesn't have a great & brave political leaders. There are leaders either they have abnormal physique or trouble creators by their uncontrollable tongue. We can't even find a single leader like Narendra Modi in the whole National Congress Party. But if you consider BJP, it has got nice leaders like Yediurappa, Narendra Modi & also Arun Jaitely & no one can find a orator like Narendra Modi in India itself, a damn crowd puller & also attractor of young crowd only by his speech.

Congress Party has failed to groom their wards, loyal to party, decades together, in its pursuit to accomodate migrants. Migrants never had any political philosophy, loyalty, or flare for selfless public service. Reason behind joining Congress was purely ‘Personnel feud’ with their respective ex-party and party leaders, with agenda to stick to power at any cost.

Congress might have banked upon these ‘FLOATING’ elements for quick, short time yield, rather than planning for a long term strategy. If Congress has not entertained these NOMADIC elements, shut the door on their face, I am sure BJP’s lion share of educated urban vote bank would have been captured by Congress easily. Equally, old teeth less tigers, should be asked to take rest and Congress must start exploring young blood within party.

It is always slow. Slow in responding, acting and now in chosing the leader. What good we can expect from this lethargic party? People vote for this party not because it is good but becasue they are fed up with others and have no alternative.

For sure Congress will be wiped out from the state by the Congress leaders itself. All of them need only posts & they doesn't want any development of the state. They were criticizing the ruling party leaders who went to attend Kannada (Akka) sammelana at USA. But who will criticise these Congress leaders making daily trips to Delhi even for a small issue, who is paying for their expenses??? Are they really worried about farmers?? flood affected people?? All are enjoying people's money & fool all the uneducated people.
