Puttur, May 3: A person who had boarded a Volvo bus bound for Mangaluru at Bengaluru, was drugged and robbed during the journey. The incident came to light with some delay.

A Vedic scholar from the town, who officiates religious functions, had visited Bengaluru to perform house warming ceremony there. During his return journey on April 28, as no direct Volvo bus to the town was available at the time, he had chosen to travel by a Volvo bus bound for Mangaluru.

After sometime, a fellow passenger saw the man lying unconscious with his cash and ornaments stolen. He called a relative by making use of a cellphone found in the possession of the passenger. He then admitted the man into a hospital at Hassan, handed over the cellphone to the doctor, and left. The relatives who came to the hospital later, shifted him to a private hospital at Mangaluru where he regained consciousness after two to three days. Samples were sent for forensic tests to determine the substance used to intoxicate the man.

The man has since recovered. He found that his neck chain, rings he wore in his fingers, and cash in his possession, had been robbed. He revealed that another passenger had offered him banana and tea during the travel which he had refused. He does not know how he lost his consciousness. There is likelihood of some substance having been injected into his body without his knowledge or holding some drug close to his nose and robbing him after he lost his consciousness.
