Beltangady: Sacred Heart Church Madanthyar celebrates post-centenary silver jubilee

Beltangady, May 3: Sacred Heart Church, Madanthyar celebrated its post-centenary silver jubilee with a grand event at the church ground on Wednesday, May 2.

The long-awaited event commenced with a Eucharistic celebration led by Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, bishop of Mangaluru diocese who also presided over the ceremony. Dr William D’Souza, archbishop of Patna, Dr Lawrence Mukkuzhy, bishop of Beltangady, Dr Henry D’Souza, bishop of Bellary, Dr Geevarghese Mar Makarios, bishop of Puttur and hundreds of priests, religious and lay people graced the historical occasion. Nearly 4,000 people witnessed the event.



After the Eucharistic celebration, the stage event was presided over by Bishop Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, who spoke about the significance of Sacred Heart of Jesus in life. Being the chief guest Archbishop Dr William D’Souza, inaugurated the event.

Guests of honor Bishop Dr Lawrence Mukkuzhy felicitated all the former priests who served the parish and appreciated their dedicated service.

Bishop Dr Henry D’Souza honored all the lay leaders of the parish and appreciated their selfless service.

Dr Geevarghese Mar Makarios, Sr Susheela Sequeira, UFS mother general, Ursuline Franciscan sisters, Fr Bonaventure Nazareth, vicar forane Belthangady, minister B Ramanath Rai, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, MLA Vasantha Bangera, Belthangady constituency, Gopal Krishna, president, Madanthyar gram panchayat, Fr Charles Serrao , provincial superior Carmelites, Sr Rita Dora Thomas, provincial superior, Salesian Sisters, and Sr Apoline Cordeiro, UFS, provincial superior, Ursuline Franciscan Sisters were present on the stage.

As guests of admiration former parish priests, Fr Alexander Lobo, Fr Charles Noronha, Fr Herald Mascarenhas, Fr Valerian Frank, and Fr Lawrence Mascarenhas were present.

    I studied in 6th and 7th standards in their primary school in early 1970s. Had to go elsewhere for my 8th standard. I remember going to the church a few times. Feeling grateful and happy.
