Mumbai, Sep 7: Konkani Taram Jarimari unveiled Monti Fest celebrations with Gusto on 7th of September in the city. Huge Mangalorean Konkani speaking crowd was gathered to taste the memories of our native place.
Monti Fest is a unique festival specially celebrated in Mangalore by Mangalorean Konkani speaking Catholics on the feast of the nativity of our blessed virgin Mary on September 8. The same tradition is carried out by these people when they move out to other cities or other countiries at their convenience.
The celebrations started with children gathering in procession with the plates filled with the flowers. They then honoured the statue of infant Mary and then sprinkled flower petels while singing hymns of glorification. Then all the people went in procession to the church for the special Konkani Mass.
Fr. Richard Lasrado of Victoria church Mahim was the main celebrant. Parish Priest Fr. Teo Fernandes, Fr. Victor Noronha Principal of St. Jude High School and Fr. Stephen Maria were the co-celebrant.
The choir was lead by John Mascarenhas with the accompainment help of well known artist Benjamin Miranda. Secretary Flora D'Souza, President George Furtado, Tresurer John Mascarenhas and Joseph D'Souza took the lead in the entire programme.
SSC Topper students were also falicited during this occasion. The falicitated children are Chettiar Selvin, Manuel Fernandes, Maria Augustine, Chettiar Rinaldo, Robert Sequeira, Sylvester Pereira, Antony Sequiera, Shiny Mathew and Michael Thomas.
The needy children were also given financial help. After the mass new paddy and suger cane was distributed to everyone.
