Bengaluru, May 4: BJP MLA and candidate for the upcoming assembly election in Bengaluru's Jayanagar constituency B N Vijaya Kumar died of cardiac arrest here on May 3.
59-year-old Vijaya Kumar, a two-time MLA from Bengaluru's Jayanagar constituency, had collapsed during an election rally. He was admitted to the government-run Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology late last night.
BJP spokesperson S Prakash, soon after the leader passed away, said, "Doctors attended to him till around 1 am this morning, but efforts to resuscitate him failed."
The Karnataka BJP mourned his death and tweeted "His humility, dedication & commitment to party and people will be remembered. A great loss for us. Our condolences to his family. We pray for his Sadgati."
BJP chief ministerial candidate BS Yeddyurappa offered his condolences by tweeting, "I am deeply pained at the untimely demise of my friend & party stalwart Jayanagar MLA Shri B N Vijaya Kumar. May God give strength to his family to bear this huge loss. We will work to strengthen his ideals."
Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah also tweeted, "I express my condolences to his family & loved ones. Shri Vijaya Kumar was a sincere & hard working political leader."
Late Vijay Kumar was contesting against Karnataka Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy's daughter Soumya Reddy in the upcoming assembly polls.
