Mangaluru: Election and counting of votes - No liquor for five days

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (RJP)

Mangaluru, May 5: Due to the Assembly polls on May 12 and counting of votes on May 15, liquor will not be available for sale in Dakshina Kannada district, said the circular from the district administration.

The rule applies to all districts in the state and separate circulars are issued from each district.

Starting from 6 pm on May 10 till 6 pm on May 12 all the liquor shops will remain closed. This is due to Assembly election on May 12. As the election commission has extended the polling time by an hour till 7 pm, it may extend the liquor prohibition too till 7 pm.

And again starting from 6 pm on May 14 till midnight of May 15, all liquor outlets will remain closed due to counting of votes.

The prohibition is applicable to all retail and wholesale outlets and bars selling liquor and shops selling toddy.

I don't drink liquor but when there is prohibition I love to break it. When I first landed in Saudi Arabia 15 years ago I drank liquor. Now I want to buy and drink liquor on those five days. Tell me how?

To be honest liquor sale should be restricted like this throughout the year. This time almost all the functions I attended in my community were without liquor and no one seems to be having any problem with the ban and all functions were really good even without liquor. It is really painful to see the money wasted behind this commodity in our functions even by those who cannot afford.
