Rahul Gandhi will have to wait for 10 to 15 yrs to be PM, says Ramdas Athawale

Pune, May 12 (PTI): Union Minister Ramdas Athawale on Friday said that Congress chief Rahul Gandhi would have to wait for "10 to 15 years" to become the country's Prime Minister.

He said that there was, however, nothing wrong in nurturing such an ambition.

"Rahul Gandhi has spoken about his Prime Ministerial ambitions. But I think he will have to wait for 10 to 15 years. There is nothing wrong with having an ambition to become prime minister. However, it is too early to express such an ambition," said Athawale.

The Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment claimed that the National Democratic Alliance under PM Narendra Modi would once again come to power in 2019.

He added that the BJP would win Karnataka with a clear majority as communities like the Lingayats, OBCs etc were supporting the party.

"The Congress is projecting the BJP as an anti-Dalit party, but people are wise enough to understand what is right," he said.

Earlier in the day, Athawale visited Bhima Koregaon and met the family members of Pooja Sakat, whose house was torched during the violence that occurred there on January 1.

Pooja, who was a witness to the violence, was found dead in a well nearby in April.

"Pooja's family claims she was either murdered or was forced to commit suicide. Nine people have been named in the FIR of which two have been arrested. I have asked police to arrest the rest soon," he said.

Athawale first must try to win his seat next year. Why BJP is after Rahul ji??? Let them focus on job creation and development instead of communalising and spoiling the liberal structure of India. Since 26 May 2014 people are really fed up of their policies and hatred. Let the liberal partys win elections for the prosperity of India.

Mr. Athawale was wrong. He will never become a PM. There are regional parties which are doing better than congress. Even if the coalition wins by any chance, there will be huge fight between the parties as to who will become the PM.

    Surendra Poojari,
Fully agree with you. Many Indians overseas especially, US, UK, Australia etc. are impressed with Modi because of the huge paid media hyped up image of Modi. Further, most of them think that image is the most important attribute of a leader even if in India unemployment, rapes, lynching, looters fleeing, moral policing are reaching unacceptable proportions and the economy is going to the dogs. They seem quite disconnected with the ground reality because most of our paid TV media are only singing bhajans praising Modi and the ground truth is not reaching overseas or they are not making effort to find out enough.

This guy pretends to be a Dalit leader but for greed of power/money he is with the party that pays only lip service to Dalits and only garlanding service to Dr. Ambedkar.

It is not YOU alone decide who can become PM, CM or anything. Your work is to serve the people, not to decide these things. Else you will wait for ever to become MP again.
