Allow exchange of demonetised notes at earliest: KP Oli to PM Modi

Kathmandu, May 12 (PTI): Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Friday urged his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi to allow exchange of demonetised high-value Indian currency notes held by the country's banks and the general public at the earliest.

According to the Nepal's national bank, the Nepal Rashtra Bank (NRB), nearly 33.6 million Indian rupees in Rs. 1,000 and Rs. 500 banknotes are currently in the Nepali banking channel.

"I requested Modi Ji to facilitate the exchange of demonetised currency notes held in the Nepali banking system and by general public, at the earliest," Oli said at a joint press meet after their bilateral talks.

PM Modi arrived in Nepal on Friday on a two-day state visit.

The landlocked country depends on India for trade and supplies.

Prime Minister Modi, on November 8, 2016, had announced demonetisation of high value currency notes. Indian currency is widely used in Nepal for day-to-day transactions, especially in the border areas.

Also, Nepalese citizens working in India send remittances to their families in Nepal in higher denomination notes.

In March, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had announced that Nepal would soon get exchange facilities for the demonetised high-value Indian currency notes to ease difficulties faced by Nepalese citizens.

Jaitley, who was on a visit to Nepal, had said the NRB and the Reserve Bank of India would set a modality for the exchange of demonetised currency notes soon and settle the related issues.

Nepal PM KP Oli should contact Bellary mine mafia Gali Janardhan Reddy and BJP's Chief Ministerial candidate in making Sriramalu. They are expert in managing 'Demonetisation' when the whole nation is stood outside the banks in serpentine lines waiting to withdraw money from their own savings.

Nepali is probably not lucky Gali Janardhan who managed Rs 500 worth of extravaganza wedding of his daughter when the restriction was imposed by RBI with limitation. Reddy brothers must be most luckiest to support BJP without getting any IT raids.

I would suggest Nepal to have their own currency. When small currency like Bhutan can manage their own why not Nepal depend on PM Modi?
If there is no respect and values, then Nepal should not be reliant. If they can manage blockade then can currency is not big issue.

This cannot be complied since this has been stopped in India and if allowed to Nepal then its is a passage to exchange the hoarded black money in India through Nepal.

Why? Is Nepal in India? Didn't Modi see how Indians suffered due to this blunder? If they agree to exchange the notes from Nepal, then there is no doubt that Modi is going to sell India soon.
