Bengaluru, May 30: The Congress has released the list of its candidates for the bienniel Legislative Council elections scheduled to be held on June 8.
Congress president Rahul Gandhi has given green signal to the list consisting of four candidates. Names of C M Ibrahim, K Govindaraju, Arvind Kumar S Arali and K Harish Kumar have been cleared by the Congress high command.
Harish Kumar is the Dakshina Kannada district Congress committee president and has also served as president of Beltangady block Congress.
Also, JD(S) has given the ticket to party general secretary B M Farooq as its candidate for the MLC election. Farooq had earlier contested for Rajya Sabha elections too but lost. The BJP meanwhile has its list to the party high command in Delhi for approval.
Elections will be held for 11 seats where the BJP as per their present strength could win 5 seats, followed by Congress with 4 and 2 seats by the JD(S).
In the legislative assembly elections, the BJP has won 104 seats, followed by Congress with 78 and JD(S) with 37 seats.
