Udupi, May 31: The sub-inspector of Hiriadka police station was suspended for dereliction of duty in connection to the suspicious death of an elderly man who was allegedly transporting cattle illegally.
SI of Hiriadka police D N Kumar was suspected on Thursday May 31, a day after Hussainabba (61) was found dead at Perdoor, in what his family has alleged to be a case of murder.
SP Laxman Nimbargi speaking to daijiworld confirmed the suspension of D N Kumar. He has been suspended not only for dereliction of duty, but also for not taking appropriate action in the case.
Sources said that three more police personnel - assistant sub-inspector, head constable Rajesh and police jeep driver Gopal are also likely to be suspended soon in connection to the case.
On Thursday, IGP Arun Chakravarthy along with other police officers visited the crime spot and conducted investigations.
Hussainabba along with three others was transporting cattle, allegedly illegally, in the wee hours of Wednesday May 30, when their Scorpio was waylaid. Three of them managed to escape while Hussainabba died.
The police had received a call at 4.15 am on Wednesday morning about cattle trafficking and had rushed to the spot. The exact circumstances that led to the elderly man's death are yet to be known. The family had received a call on Wednesday morning that his body was found on a hillock in Perdoor.
Hussainabba's family has filed a complaint alleging that Bajrang Dal activists beat him to death. Locals alleged that the police were in connivance with the Bajrang Dal activists, who on previous occasions too had take police help to waylay cattle traffickers. Hussainabba's relative has also alleged that Bajrang Dal activists had on an earlier instance tied up Hussainabba and forced him to drink urine.
It is also learnt from sources that former SI of Hiriadka police station Mahesh Prasad, who is currently serving in Puttur, will be heading the investigation into the case.
