Udupi: Hussainabba's death - Hiriadka SI suspended, more heads likely to roll

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (UM)

Udupi, May 31: The sub-inspector of Hiriadka police station was suspended for dereliction of duty in connection to the suspicious death of an elderly man who was allegedly transporting cattle illegally.

SI of Hiriadka police D N Kumar was suspected on Thursday May 31, a day after Hussainabba (61) was found dead at Perdoor, in what his family has alleged to be a case of murder.

SP Laxman Nimbargi speaking to daijiworld confirmed the suspension of D N Kumar. He has been suspended not only for dereliction of duty, but also for not taking appropriate action in the case.

Sources said that three more police personnel - assistant sub-inspector, head constable Rajesh and police jeep driver Gopal are also likely to be suspended soon in connection to the case.

On Thursday, IGP Arun Chakravarthy along with other police officers visited the crime spot and conducted investigations.

Hussainabba along with three others was transporting cattle, allegedly illegally, in the wee hours of Wednesday May 30, when their Scorpio was waylaid. Three of them managed to escape while Hussainabba died.

The police had received a call at 4.15 am on Wednesday morning about cattle trafficking and had rushed to the spot. The exact circumstances that led to the elderly man's death are yet to be known. The family had received a call on Wednesday morning that his body was found on a hillock in Perdoor.

Hussainabba's family has filed a complaint alleging that Bajrang Dal activists beat him to death. Locals alleged that the police were in connivance with the Bajrang Dal activists, who on previous occasions too had take police help to waylay cattle traffickers. Hussainabba's relative has also alleged that Bajrang Dal activists had on an earlier instance tied up Hussainabba and forced him to drink urine.

It is also learnt from sources that former SI of Hiriadka police station Mahesh Prasad, who is currently serving in Puttur, will be heading the investigation into the case.

Seriously.. People are dying because of an animal?? this is what our country has stooped down to.. where Cow value is more than Human value.. If the victim is guilty of stealing the cow then yes he should have been caught and tried by law.. no one has the right to take law on their own hands and deliver justice.. This vigilantism is what will take us closer to the likes of talibanism..

if the police have taken strict action during first cow theft case as per law, then they could have saved his life. so govt should be very clear on cow theft case so that many people can come back to main stream & they can enjoy the peaceful life.

He was stealing cattle for ages. If the police had acted and arrested him earlier this murder could have been avoided.

Coastal belt has become a hotbed of murders and violence. When will this stop? People should stop taking all religions seriously. The growth of PFI, Bajrang Dal etc is only going to lead to further chaos. Probably we should all return to practice the Jain principle of ahimsa. Tulu Nadu was once ruled by kings and chiefs who practiced jain philosophy and there was harmony in society. Now we have democracy where one asks votes in name of Hindutva and other in the name of minority. What we really get from these politicians is murder, violence and mismanagement during natural disaster like recent floods. Our society has lost its moral compass due to political propaganda.

    Human life is most precious.
It is not such a heinous crime like khatua which is forcibly calmed down.
Also perpetrators of Nirbhaya case may live almost full life in jail protection and healthy meals.
What to choose between a cattle and a human???
Disgusting to even imagine young men killing a helpless old man of their grand fathers' age.
