Bantwal: Kollur temple grant denial - Kalladka, Punacha schools covered under Akshara Dasoha

Daijiworld Media Network - Bantwal (SP)

Bantwal, Jun 1: Kalladka and Punacha high schools, which had hogged limelight all over the state two years back after the state government ordered stoppage of grant to these schools from Kollur Goddess Mookambika temple, have now been covered under the hot meal programme of the government.

The school management had taken it as a challenge and pooled donations from the people to continue to provide free food to students. Both the schools have this time requested themselves to be brought under the 'Akshara Dasoha' scheme of the government. The department has given its nod and supplied rice to both the schools.

Ramanatha Rai  and Dr Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat

Sri Rama Vidya Kendra, Kalladka and Sri Devi High School, Punacha had approached the department during May end this year, seeking to be covered under the free lunch programme of the government beginning from the new academic year. The officials instantly responded to the request and began to supply rice under the scheme to these schools.

The Kalladka School falls under the administration of Vivekananda Education Society Puttur. It conducts classes from first standard to SSLC and degree course. The school up to seventh standard is unaided, while high school section is aided. As the school was provided grant for providing free lunch to students from Kollur temple in the past, the government was not providing food to both Punacha and Kalladka schools. After Kollur Temple was advised against extending this aid since March 2016, the schools were running lunch programme with aid from donors.

The denial of aid from Kollur temple had become controversial after Sangh Parivar outfits and BJP raked up the issue at various forums including the assembly. After the government changed subsequent to the election, the schools sent requests to be covered under the government scheme. The officials have agreed to supply rice, toor dal, oil etc to 908 students of Kalladka School and 127 students of Punacha school.

Although the schools failed to get fund from Kollur temple since the last two years, they were continued to be covered under a scheme of supplying milk for five days every week, the officials stated.

It is believed that the whole controversy surrounding the grant denial to these schools was a result of political tussle between RSS ideologue Dr Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat and former minister Ramanatha Rai.

    Rathan,

I am no political representative to produce a bill of party expenses but I certainly was a member of tourists visited holy places. We informed in advance of the group's visit and asked for mid-day meal. We gladly paid the costs out of collections we made from the group. This is not a complain, we would have paid anywhere, temple no different because they incur for the service.

I am aware that meals what the temples prepare for pilgrims are free of cost but Congress' members may not have gone there as pilgrims just as the group I mentioned above.

Temples do not contribute for the rest of the communities - whatever collected from them is used for payment of priests, security, upliftment of monuments (wear and tear repairs), festivals celebration expenses and of-course food for the pilgrims and their stay during pilgrimages.

What the minorities get as grant is a division of our taxes which also temples get. Listed carefully when budget is read out.

    Nithin,

Temples come under Muzarai Act, that takes a certain percentage according to specifically fixed slab of income earned by the temples. The slab is set something like below 5 Lakhs per year, above and so on. The income is counted in the presence of Government representative and logged in the books. I am sure that you know about 'Dakshina' that does not go to HUNDI. If you have problem with this rule, your government, in majority at the center had long four years to change it. Please don't crib in public and don't compare Apples with Banana - they are way too different.

Now, Churches have no HUNDI. People contribute during Sunday service which is counted and regulated like income of a common man/business. Uniform tax-rate of common citizen is applicable to this income and is paid accordingly.

Mosques don't collect on weekly service but families within the mosque area are to contribute for the expenses of upkeep of the mosque and payment to the Mulla.

The logic is simple. Congress tried to polarize votes by appeasing and impressing the minority community. They got what they deserved, a complete 'wash out' .Cong party is now reduced to play second fiddle to small regional parties 'unconditionally' even though they are dreaded enemies. Cong has lost its credibility nation wide and will soon merge as small part of coaltion to counter BJP.

The overrated Congi candidates of the the Coastal belt were wiped out with their political careers for future at cross roads. 2019 a united coalition may counter, but not Raul Vinci's Congress. Its not agreat deal for us congress supporters, but please keep in mind who was the one who sored his ears ,its from ur own bunta community .Are you blind ?? Can't you see the politics .Even after Karnataka had BJp as single largest party KP bhatta neither rejoiced nor he came to media.Did he go to US? Didn't he see the news .
He didn't even gave statement about coalition which usually he has the habit of poking nose like how thackerey's of Mumbai do.

But Bhatta is no where to be seen, real reason is he is now having eneimity within his own cadres. Not Rai .Rai is an outsider for him and it doesn't hurt if he plays politricks.

Right now Mr.Bhat is in shock mode how could his own people do this blunder to him.Everywhere BJP's religious fundamentalist party is getting tight slap from BJP,Congress has existed past 60years,its not that easy to topple down,BJP had focused too much on putting down, while it didn't see that while it climbing it's losing one by one of its branches. This baby party should concentrate on its survival rather focusing Congress destruction, they are day by day becoming strong.

What do you think Rahul aise hi chala gaya US...hahhaa.Dont think he is so so pappu. He is also getting NRI's investors for his party which is top secret.

The people who marched in for a road show at BC Road with the innocent children now realized that what ever you give to the school but you don't have a right to see the account books.

Good job. As long as the children get their food, it shouldn't be anybody's worry. Let the temple finances be managed as they were, with all temples. If temple-goers are not happy about it, stop donating to temples or let your government at the center change the rules.

An individual deciding on finances and the track about where the funds go gets lost is too dangerous to the society because never know where the finances are being used and for what.

    Sri,'

This Mid-day meal is not for the likes of me and you but for the lower class, whose children grow up anemic and malnutrition-ed. The parents send them to school because ONE meal is available for their children for free, not out of love for education. They would rather keep the child at home to look after the younger siblings while both the parents go to coolie work. The system is in-fact double edged sword - when the older sibling goes to work and reads/writes, the younger one too asks to be sent to school. The nation is at gain because there will be younger generation with minimum education than illiterate.

Well, when it is served, the school can't differentiate between the economically able and otherwise so all are fed. Whats wrong with anyway ?

    Sampath,

Religious institutions is your property - SCHOOLS ARE NOT. There is a system how schools are run, you can't change it just for one locality.

As for your allegations that Christian institutions get grant from the West, what Modi's Adhaar and PAN doing ? Can't he find out the source from where funds are coming ? Can't he audit the institutions that receive funds ? Tell you what - forget religious institutions, he has not left even NGOs. Many NGOs have closed down due to non-availability of funds. Running them with government grants has become impossible because submission of docs and getting them approved by local bodies has become an herculean task because almost 75% need to be fed to them in advance from what is expected.

    Guess the situation !?
