Congress-JD(S) to fight 2019 polls together, says K C Venugopal, announces portfolio distribution

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Jun 1: The Congress and Janata Dal (Secular) as part of their alliance in the state will also fight the 2019 Lok Sabha elections together, announced Congress general secretary and Karnataka in-charge K C Venugopal.

Speaking to the media regarding the portfolio allocation and expansion plans for their coalition government in Karnataka on Friday, Venugopal confirmed that Kumaraswamy will be the chief minister for the full term.

"We (Congress-JDS) have come to a conclusion regarding cabinet expansion and portfolio allocation. Everything is settled," Venugopal said.

The crucial finance portfolio will be handled by the JD(S) while Congress is in-charge of the home ministry. Congress will also handle irrigation, rural and urban development portfolio.

To ensure the smooth functioning of the coalition government, JD(S) and Congress has formed coalition coordination and monitoring committee that will meet at least once every month, Venugopal said. The committee will clear every appointment to statutory boards and organisations. Former Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah has been appointed as the chairman of the coordination committee and JD(S) leader Danish Ali has been appointed as its convenor.

The alliance will bring out a common agenda for governance, which will include key promises made by both the coalition partners.

It is said that there was a great tug-of-war between two parties for the finance portfolio but Congress gave the ministry to JD(S) after the intervention of Congress president Rahul Gandhi, who wanted the coalition to not fall apart.

Congress-JDS alliance has mutually agreed to share ministerial portfolios in the following manner:

Good decision provided they keep aside their ego and whole heartedly work each other to reach a common goal of winning maximum parliament seats in the state.

Sad to see Congress morphing itself into a truly regional party!
Except Rajasthan, MP, Gujarat and Punjab, they are nowhere near to the No.1 or No.2 Regional parties.
Karnataka will spell death knell for party now. Never can Congress come to power on their own again.

The real test for the new coalition will be for three seats vacated due to MLA's being elected from both BJP and JD(S) after Karnataka assembly elections.

For JD(S) seat Congress should not field any candidates, While two seats held by BJP should be put up join fight by JD(S) and Congress together.

As far as JD(S)-Congress coalition they need to learn lot from Uttar Pradesh success by the combined fight of the regional parties.

If party JD(S)- Congress registered win on all the seats, it will be ground breaking path for the 2019. Jai Hind

In Mangalore, a single candidate should contest from opposition against Nalin Kumar Kateel in 2019.
If some young and energetic candidate like the youth Congress leader Mithun Rai is supported by JDS surely he will be the winner.

In Mangalore, fight was always between bjp and Congress.
    JDs was never a player.
But what about those constituency where JDS fought with Cong and won? There bjp are a minor player. The Cong worker will not like it all..
That is when the fun begins.
