Udupi, Jun 1: The Ballari police have arrested three Bajrang Dal activists in connection to the suspicious death of Hussainabba who was allegedly transporting cattle illegally, sources said.
The arrested are said to be H Prasad, Deepak alias Shetty and Suresh Mendon alias Suri.
However, the Udupi police are yet to officially confirm the arrests.
Hussainabba along with three others was transporting cattle, allegedly illegally, in the wee hours of Wednesday May 30, when their Scorpio was waylaid. It is alleged that when Suri and other Bajrang Dal activists waylaid the vehicle, Hussainabba and the others grew frightened and ran. Three of them managed to escape while Hussainabba died.
It is said that soon after the incident, Bajrang Dal activists went absconding. Sources said that they came to Ballari by a car bearing registration number A 20 M B 7864 and took refuge here. Based on this information, the Udupi police got in touch with their counterparts in Ballari and got the trio arrested from a hotel on Friday June 1, it is said.
SI of Hiriadka police D N Kumar was suspended for dereliction of duty on Thursday May 31, a day after Hussainabba (61) was found dead at Perdoor, in what his family has alleged to be a case of murder.
Hussainabba's family had filed a complaint alleging that Bajrang Dal activists beat him to death, naming Suri as the accused. Locals alleged that the police were in connivance with the Bajrang Dal activists, who on previous occasions too had take police help to waylay cattle traffickers. Hussainabba's relative had also alleged that Bajrang Dal activists had on an earlier instance tied up Hussainabba and forced him to drink urine.
