Bantwal: Quarrel after intoxication - 70-year-old man kills son-in-law

Bantwal, Jun 2: An argument under the influence of alcohol, between father-in-law and son-in-law ended in the murder of latter at Maninalkur near here on Saturday, June 2.

Ramananda (52) is the person deceased.

Ammanna Poojary (70) is the accused.

Ramananda hailed from Banakal in Chikkamagaluru district. After marrying Mohini, the daughter of Ammanna Poojary, he started residing in Maninalkur at Ammanna’s house. Ramananda Mohini couple have three daughters and the eldest got married recently. Other two work in a garment shop in Moodbidri.

It is said that Ammanna Poojary and Ramananda had some differences since some days and in between they engaged in arguments. When none was at home, the murder took place on Saturday.

When Mohini came back from her work, she found her husband’s dead body in a ditch near the house. Accused Ammanna Poojary too has sustained some injuries and has been taken to a hospital in Mangaluru.

Ammanna was married twice. Mohini’s mother died few years back. Ammanna’s second wife stays in another house in Maninalkur with her two daughters.

Exact reason for the murder is not known. But the police say, it was committed under the influence of alcohol.

Bantwal rural police have taken up the investigations.

    Alcohol is not the problem, behavior and education system that create citizen is the problem. Alcohol is good revenue generator and employment creator as well as toxins in body bring piece to mind.
    But violent behavior has to be controlled.
    Real social enemies were multiple marriages unhealthy relationship, in eligible person becoming parent and trying more number of kids than the economics could support. Neither social care can't support not they will have strangth or back ground to come to mainstream.

    If alchohol ban in India all ladies will put vote to the party which bans alchohol.

    Alchohol is the killer and peace remover in the family.

    Family always under poverty though they earn more.

    children cant study.

    no respect to elders.

    more money to doctors they get more patients.

    Do you think politicians who vomit communal venom after consuming alcohol? Terrorists bomb the city after consuming alcohol? There is no point in banning alcohol. In other words are you saying that there are rapes happening in India so there is need to cut the genitals of all men? What a stupid mentality. You are speaking like uneducated PM and his chelas. I was thinking Kannadigas are smart. Education will only solution for all the problems.

    @Surendra Poojary mangalore,yes I too thought kannadigas are smarter,and educated enough to realize alcoholism is a sickness.One who addicts to it ,without treatment they dont recover.but when I read your comments,should think with all education,still is in a dark room.Probably you didnt experience at home the heat of it.Familys go broken.daily wagers addict to drinks with what they earn,later ,children wife have to sleep without food.when wife too drinks ,schools ,are far away for them ,they too start drinking.whole night quarrel,husband or son raise hands to Parents/children,or wife.son kills mother ,because she didnt give money to him to drink alcohol.he never goes to work,,sleep all the day long.Bad this soninlaw stayed in father in laws house.May his soul rest in peace.Heartfelt sympathys to his family.

    Rita Germany...my intention is to tell that there is no point to ban alchohol. Education is most important. With regard to your point that I didn't face any heat - Yes you are right. I drink, my father used to drink and my grand father also used to drink. But we never used to fight after drinking. May be you have experienced tough time due to drinking but for me it's always in limits. And mind you alcohol deaths in DK are much more lesser compared to road accidents, communal deaths.

    Yes. Just like banning triple talaq got them support of Muslim women, banning alcohol will get them support from lots of women. .
