Udupi, Jun 2: The police have arrested four persons so far in connection to the mysterious death of Hussainabba, a cattle trader from Jokatte in Mangaluru, said Udupi SP Laxman Nimbargi.
Hussainabba (61) and three others were transporting cattle, allegedly illegally, on the wee hours of May 31 when their vehicle was allegedly waylaid by Bajrang Dal activists. While three managed to escape, Hussainabba died and his body was reportedly found in a hillock in Perdoor.
The police have so far arrested Udupi VHP leader Suresh Mendon alias Suri, and Bajrang Dal activists Prasad Kondady, Umesh Shetty and Ratan. While three of them were arrested in Ballari, Ratan and Umesh were nabbed in Udupi.
The Ballari police on Friday June 1 had taken Suri, Prasad and Deepak Shetty into custody. They were brought to Udupi and subjected to interrogation, during which it was learnt that Suri and Prasad were the accused. Thereafter, the Udupi police arrested Ratan and Umesh, the SP said.
"The four have been arrested on charges of attacking a cattle trader after intercepting his vehicle. Whether Husssainabba was murdered or not would be clear after the post-mortem report is out. We are likely to get the report today or tomorrow. Further investigations are on," SP Nimbargi added.
