Mangaluru, Jun 3: A local senior BJP leader passed away on Saturday June 2, days after he took ill following his party's loss in Ullal constituency in the recent assembly elections.
Devappa Kulal (60), an RSS and BJP leader of Naringana, breathed his last after battling for life for several days in hospital.
It is said that on May 15, the day of the counting for assembly elections, Devappa received news on phone that BJP candidate from Mangaluru (Ullal) constituency Santosh Rai Boliyar had lost to Congress' U T Khader.
Speaking at a thanksgiving programme of BJP workers on Sunday June 3, Santosh Rai Boliyar said that Devappa had been actively involved in his campaigning. The news of his loss shocked Devappa and he fell ill, he said. Devappa had been admitted to hospital, where he passed away.
A condolence meet was held at Montepadavau for Devappa on Sunday during which local party leaders, workers and well-wishers paid their last respects.
