Udupi, Jun 4: The three policemen arrested in connection to the death of Hussainabba at Perdoor have been lodged in Karwar jail.
Hussainabba (61) died after he was brutally assaulted by Bajrang Dal activists in the presence of Hiriadka police at Perdoor in the wee hours of May 30. The activists and the police had waylaid his vehicle for allegedly trafficking cattle. The police along with the activists had even tried to cover up the crime by dumping Hussainabba's body in Perdoor.
In this regard, sub-inspector of Hiriadka police station D N Kumar was suspended for dereliction of duty and failure to take action in the case the very next day. Head constable Mohan Kotwal and police jeep driver Gopal were suspended thereafter.

All three were taken into custody and interrogated, during which they confessed about their involvement. They were then formally arrested.
On June 3, being a Sunday, they were produced before the judge in his residence at night. The judge sent them to one-day judicial custody and directed that they be sent to Karwar jail. They will be produced in Udupi distict court again on Monday June 4.
Other persons arrested in the case are also likely to be produced in court on Monday.
Altogether 10 person including the three cops have been arrested so far. The others arrested are local VHP leader Suresh Mendon alias Suri, who is the main accused, Prasad Kondady, Umesh Shetty (28), Ratan (22), Chetan alias Chetan Acharya (22), Shailesh Shetty (20) and Ganesh (24). While Suri and Prasad were arrested in Ballari, the others were nabbed in Udupi.
