Udupi: Youth ends life over sexual harassment charges, family protests outside girl's house

Udupi, Jun 4: A youth committed suicide on Saturday June 2, a month after a girl accused him of sexually harassing her.

On Sunday June 3, the family of the deceased youth protested outside the residence of the girl with his body.

Santhosh Kundar (29), a resident of Sasthan Kodi-Kanyana was found dead on June 2 at Kadoor, Biroor.

The family of Santhosh claimed that the girl's allegations were false and baseless. Santhosh was dejected at the false accusation of sexual harassment due to which he took the extreme step, they said.

The girl had approached Kota police station and filed a sexual harassment case against Santhosh on May 2. Soon after that, Santhosh went missing till the day he was found dead in Kadoor.

His family members said that Santhosh was a good man and he was upset over the false accusations made by the girl. They also alleged that the girl was instigated by a human rights organization.

They kept his dead body in front of her residence and protested amid police security. Hours after Sathosh committed suicide, the girl's family locked the house and moved to another place. After the protest the family members performed the last rites.

Must answer what is the punishment for false cases filed by woman or wife on husband.     @John mangalore,Japan.what you say is a part right and other side of coin says also not correct.How many times boys too deny .we dont justify the girl nor boy.why he did suecide instead of clearing the matter ,confronting the girl?He was not a schoolboy ,could clear with girls family,or head of some temple etc.Now matter is not cleared.He lost his life under mysterious circumstances.For family too is not easy to go their daily business.may his soul rest in peace.Heartfelt sympathy to his family.Now the girl should speak the truth.

    It's shocking.. if the boy has not done anything wrong then he shouldn't think of suicide & should have faced the circumstances strongly... it's an act of killing the truth.     Do you ever think that the law is biased to male? Never. Do you know how many have ended up their life like this based on false accusations. The mental harrasment is that high.
    A girl cried victim in front of the media and now the poor guy is in jail for no reason of his, apart from the fact he had kept his leg on the front seat hand rest in an aircraft.
    There are many more false accusations like this.

    Such a young life has gone. Who is at fault may not make any difference anymore as one life has just gone away. Being a lady I must say that girls can over act at times n when they realise they can not handle it anymore, they use law which supports them.
    Yes committing suicide surely is not a solution, but then boy may not have got enough moral support to realise his life is more important than anyone else.
    May his soul rest in peace and may his family gather strength and courage to live on, with this untimely loss.

    I do not know the truth but how did Santhosh know that girl filed a complaint in the police station!? Did the girl tell or the police called Santhosh!?.     now a days it's common that few girls mis-use law for their personal gain and seek sympathy from public.
    how can someone go and harass someone without any demand and supply. as we have seen all desires have not been fulfilled, some started mis-using law, because out law system is that much weak.

    Dear brother,

    We grown up in village and while going to school we faced problems. We know how girls suffer.

    This boys complaint may or may not be true.

    That police will see know. Suicide is not the solution. He can take help from family and can file case against girl if it is false complaint.

    News is not clear here. If it is girls false complaint she will be punished.

    My daughters friend discontinued her tutions because on the way to tutions one boy following and troubling her. And it was morning 6 people are very less on the road. She did not give complaint. she discontinued tutions.

    I may be wrong. You keep that girl in your sister place and think.

    Its true the girls have to suffer more than men and that too in the blame game. When there is firm and strict message sent out by the girl I think no men can able to stand before women unless on the revenge agony.     Here Dinesh is right. Wherever there is death, in most of the cases in coastal Karnataka, the BJP/BD immediately rush and put the blame , so that they can exploit the emotions of one community. Here the girl and boy belongs to the same religion. So they chance of exploiting the sentiments of one community by BJP/ BD groups.

    Only time will tell.

    We can come across numerous instances where cases (in general) are forgotten easily - due to limited memory which is the human tendency and nothing comes out thereafter.

    And most importantly - just as woman's word is considered FINAL here in the Middle East, likewise the same trend is now being copied to India and God knows how many more countries are vulnerable due to their lethargy.
