New Delhi, Jun 4: WHO-SEARO (World Health Organization – South East Asia Regional Office) will hold the regional consultation on strengthening emergency medical teams (EMTs) for South East Asia Region on June 5 and 6. Mangaluru Headquartered, CHD Group led by Dr Edmond Fernandes has been invited to participate in the regional consultation which will review global and regional developments in the area of Emergency response and team preparedness, adopt regional EMT governance mechanism and draft the discussion paper of EMT for the Regional Committee.
More than 50 participants across South East Asia have been invited ranging from representatives from the Ministry of Health from 11 member states of the SEA region, non-government organization partners, and those running EMTs in the region and other focal points of the UN.
Sudden onset disasters cause extensive injuries to affected people without any advance warning making health systems vulnerable and damaging health facilities that go beyond national capacities.
Mapping emergency medical teams becomes vital in such scenarios. CHD Group has been doing substantial work towards shaping health outcomes in humanitarian emergencies and has also responded to emergencies in the past across India. Dr Edmond Fernandes will represent CHD Group for this important regional consultation besides other meetings on the sidelines in New Delhi. Dr Edmond is also member of the Health Task Force, District Disaster Management Authority, government of Karnataka.
