Mangaluru, Jun 6: The police have arrested two persons in connection to the brutal murder of man whose body found in a drain canal under Chokkabettu bridge in Suratkal on June 2.
The arrested are Gowdappa Gowda Sannagowdra (55) from Bagalkot and Hullappa Basappa Soodi (28) from Koppal.
Mariappa (45) was found under the bridge on June 2 with his upper body severed from the lower. There were also several cuts on the neck. Later the same day, the lower part of the body was found in the drain, and a murder case was registered.
The relatives of the deceased were traced and questioned. They informed the police that Mariappa was staying with Gowdappa and Hullappa. Based on the information, the accused were arrested near Chokkabettu on Monday June 4.
The deceased and the accused were staying in the same room. Accused Gowdappa Gowda owed money to the deceased Mariappa. There was fight over money between them, and the two accused allegedly murdered Mariappa.
The two accused have been remanded in judicial custody.
Surathkal police inspector K G Ramakrishna, officials, staff of the office of police commissioner took part in the operation under guidance from assistant police commissioner in charge Mangaluru north sub division Gopalakrishna Nayak.
