Beltangady, Jun 7: Two gangs fought a pitched battle with each other by using iron rods and swords near Paddandadka mosque near Venoor in the taluk on the night of Tuesday June 5 over the issue of Madrasa syllabus.
Arif, Muzammil, and Shabbir, said in a complaint that they had come under attack at the hands of another group. On the basis of complaint filed by them, a case against Basheer Gandhinagara, U K Mohammed, Shariff Gandhinagara, Ashraf Gandhinagara, Rahim Peradi and Shabbir was registered in Venoor police station. The dispute between the two groups reportedly arose on account of differences over Madrasa syllabus.
Reportedly, differences had been persisting since long between activists of Samasta Kerala Sunni Students Federation and Sunni Students Federation on this issue. As per information, quarrel broke out between activists of the two groups at around 10 pm on Tuesday near the mosque, following which the groups fought with arms. A counter complaint was also filed by the other group.
Venoor police, who have registered both the complaints, are investigating.
