Pranab describes RSS founder Hedgewar as 'great son of Mother India'

Nagpur, Jun 7 (PTI): Former President and the Congress veteran Pranab Mukherjee today described Keshav Baliram Hedgewar as a "great son of Mother India' as he visited the birthplace of the RSS founding Sarsanghachalak.

"Today I came here to pay my respect and homage to a great son of Mother India," Mukherjee wrote in a visitor's book at Hedgewar's birthplace ahead of his much-anticipated speech at the RSS headquarters here.

Those present included Subhash Chandra Bose's family members who have been invited as special guests, sources said.

Mukherjee, who was welcomed by the RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, had to walk through narrow lanes to reach the house where Hedgewar was born and also removed his shoes before entering the place.

According to sources, this visit to pay tributes to Hedgewar was not part of Mukherjee's scheduled itinerary and an impromptu decision was taken by the former president to do so.

Mukherjee, who reached Nagpur last evening, has been invited by the RSS to address its Shiksha Varg and attend a parade by the Sangh workers on completion of the training camp.

It is an annual training camp, meant for swayamsevaks in their third year in the organisation. The RSS holds training camps for first, second and third-year swayamsewaks.

Mukherjee's decision to attent the RSS event has already triggered a major political slugfest with several Congress leaders criticising his decision.

Senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel today expressed his disapproval at former president Pranab Mukherjee visiting the RSS headquarters in Nagpur and said he did not expect this from him.

Mukherjee's daughter and Congress leader Sharmistha had yesterday said her father was giving the BJP and the Sangh a handle to plant false stories with his decision to speak at the RSS event.

His "speech will be forgotten" but the "visuals will remain", she said on Twitter. She also expressed the hope that the former president would realise how the BJP's "dirty tricks department" works and warned him of the consequences of attending such a meet.

Some Congress leaders, including Jairam Ramesh and C K Jaffar Sharief, also wrote to him, while a few leaders of the party, including Anand Sharma, personally visited him in a bid to dissuade him from going to Nagpur.

This guy has always internally supported RSS ideologies wearing a mask of secular/liberal working under Congress.

We know how he used to sign death sentences belonging to a particular community irrespective of there were chances to provide mercy but in instead for almost all cases of particular community signed death sentence. That sign of him clearly showed this guy carries hatred in heart for a particular community.

Now by accepting RSS invitation, attending it's function and praising it's leader he has shown what he is. A big hypocrite. Jahan chikna wahan jhukna. Imaan bechne wale. Bikaw log.

Guys, lots of back-end work is done by Mr Modi and the gang so that prominent leaders and forced to join their party or make an action which is so obviously shattering to that persons image.

All politicians are corrupt because of the system and have made millions by selling India .
Mr Modi is using his power and his appointed people in the IT department to raid these opposition party leaders or threaten them with dire consequences.

Why do you think then hardcore Congress politicians like SM Krishna changed party overnight and also Mr Pramod Madhvaraj almost pushed to the limits ?

Like it or not, India is under dictatorship of Mr.Modi ! Life is going to be very difficult in India my friends unless you are an uneducated trouble maker.

Sad times for democratic-secular India! Pranab, former President of India who took oath to safeguard it, is going to be the guest of honour of RSS which wants to overthrow the democratic-secular polity of India and establish Hindu state. How much RSS hates an all-inclusive India can be known by its hatred of our National Flag, a symbol of our polity. Just on the eve of our Independence the RSS English organ (August 14, 1947 issue) denigrated the National Flag in the following words:

“The people who have come to power by the kick of fate may give in our hands the Tricolour but it never be respected and owned by Hindus. The word three is in itself an evil, and a flag having three colours will certainly produce a very bad psychological effect and is injurious to a country.”

Pranab has been a senior Congress leader who became the Lok Sabha member from a constituency where Muslim voters are in majority, must be familiar with the AICC resolution of 1934, never rescinded, that no Congress member should work with RSS, Hindu Mahasabha and the Muslim League. Shamelessly, he is going to honour the fountain-head of the Hindu nationalist politics. Who does not know that father of the Nation, Gandhi was assassinated by those who identified themselves as Hindu nationalists.
The timing of Pranab’s riding the Hindutva juggernaut is very crucial. President of Congress Rahul Gandhi has declared RSS as enemy of India and its people. He has been telling the Congress leaders and cadres that real fight is against the RSS and Modi government is simply a puppet of Nagpur based organization. RSS has filed many cases against him. At this juncture RSS has no choice but to activate its sleeper cell sympathizers, like Pranab, in Congress to come out so that aggressiveness of Rahul against RSS can be withered.
If Pranab can go to attend function of RSS, the time may not be far away when he would go to functions of Lashkar E Taiba or Jaish-e-Mohammed also hate democratic-secular India.

Can Mr. Mukherjee show the mirror to RSS and tell them as to what Gandhi, Patel and Nehru thought of the ideology and nationalism of RSS. In the aftermath of murder of the father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi, Patel wrote, ““All their (RSS) leaders’ speeches were full of communal poison. As a final result of the poisonous atmosphere was created in which such a ghastly tragedy (Gandhi’s murder) became possible. RSS men expressed their joy and distributed sweets after Gandhi’s death.” excerpts from Sardar Patel’s letters to M S Golwalkar and S P Mookerjee. (Outlook, April 27, 1998). All this happened not just because of an act of insanity but due to unfolding of the ideology of Hindu nationalism, espoused by RSS.
Gandhi characterized RSS as a communal body with a totalitarian outlook. (Khaki Shorts: saffron Flags, page 22)
In Harijan of 9 August 1942, Gandhi writes, “I had heard of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and its activities; and also know that it was a communal organisation”, this was in response to the slogans and some speech against ‘other’ community, about which a complaint was made.” In this Gandhi is referring to the drill of RSS volunteers, who shouted that this Nation belongs to Hindus alone and once the British leave we will subjugate the non Hindus. In response to the rowdyism indulged by communal organisations, he writes, “I hear many things about RSS. I have heard it said the Sangh is at the root of all this mischief”. [Gandhi, Collected Works xcviii, 320-322, Publications Division, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, New Delhi 1958)
Can RSS give up its Hindu nationalist ideology? Can RSS disown Golwalkar’s “We or our Nationhood defined” or “Bunch of Thoughts”? If Mr. Mukherjee wants to convert RSS into an organization believing in Indian, plural nationalism with diversity, he is probably aiming at a task close to impossible. So by being the guest at their function; either Mukherjee lands up giving legitimacy to the Hindu nationalism of RSS.

KB Hedgewar founded the RSS in September 1925 and throughout the rest of its life under the British Raj, remained subservient to the colonising power and opposed the Mahatma Gandhi’s mass movements for India’s freedom in every phase of the struggle.
Hedgewar lead RSS was never part of the anti-imperialist struggle. On the contrary, since its inception in 1925, the RSS only tried to disrupt the great anti-imperialist struggle of the Indian people against the British colonial rulers.”
"Hedgewar said nobody is our enemy" says Mohan Bhagwat--well, the RSS's beloved Guruji wrote a whole section titled "The Enemy Within", comprising of Muslims, Christians, and Communists.
Hedgewar, who described Muslims as 'hissing Yavana snakes', had to be put in place or they were to face extinction—become 'dead as a dodo'. Buddhism spreads 'cowardice' & Mahatma Gandhi was 'dushatma'.
Respected Citizen Mukherjee, Hedgewar who you call a great son of Mother India, described Indian Muslims as "Yavana Snakes". Do you subscribe to this view? Your praise of this man is an insult to India's religious minorities.
"Patriotism is not only going to prison. It is not correct to be carried away by such superficial patriotism." - Hedgewar’s comment in his biography on Bhagat Singh.

This Hedgewar is a great son of Mother India.?? Pranab Mukherjee is the Indian version of Neville Chamberlain.
There was no need for him to go to the RSS's Nagpur headquarters to give a lecture on "pluralism" and "co-existence of all" in India."More than what he said, what is important is who he is telling all this. Where is he saying this? What was the need?"
There is little doubt that the presence of former President Pranab Mukherjee at the RSS headquarters is a public relations coup by the Rashtriya Syayamsevak Sangh
He has done great damage to the Congress ahead of assembly and Lok Sabha elections.

Here is truth of 'great son of Mother India' which our former President Mukherjee found in.

Mr.Mukhrjee, can there be a statement more insulting to the martyrs than this? The founder of the RSS, Dr. Hedgewar, went one step further:
Patriotism is not only going to prison. It is not correct to be carried away by such superficial patriotism.
KB Hedgewar, founder of RSS, said ordering RSS cadres to keep away from the Freedom Movement: “The Sangh must stay away from programmes born out of momentary enthusiasm and outbursts of mercurial emotions. Association with such programmes will only harm the stability of the Sangh.”

Don’t you feel, Sir, that if martyrs like Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Sukhdev, Ashfaqullah, Chandrashekhar Azad had come in contact with the then RSS leadership, they could have been saved from giving their lives for ‘superficial patriotism’? This also must be the reason why RSS leaders or cadres did not face repression during British rule and the RSS did not produce any martyr during the Freedom Movement. Finally, Sir, are we to regard as noble patriotism the cringing letters that ‘Veer’ Savarkar wrote to the Angrez Sarkar?
The case of the Tricolour is a most pertinent one. In December 1929 Congress at its Lahore session adopted Purna Swaraj as the national goal and called upon the people to observe January 26, 1930 as Independence Day by displaying and honouring the Tricolour. In response to this Hedgewar as
Sarsanghchalak issued a circular to all the RSS shakhas to worship the bhagwa jhanda (saffron flag) as the National Flag.
The man who is disloyal to the NATIONAL FLAG can be great son of Mother India?
If patriotism is superficial according Hedgewar, martyrs like Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Sukhdev, Ashfaqullah, Chandrashekhar Azad had come in contact with the then RSS leadership, they could have been saved from giving their lives for ‘superficial patriotism’?
Is Pranab is the RSS man like PV Narasimha Rao in Congress who has signed 'cow slaughter' bill?

By agreeing to be chief guest at RSS event, Pranab Mukherjee has mocked all those who sacrificed their lives fighting for India’s plural ethos.
The RSS was banned once during the British rule and then on three occasions by the post independence Indian governments in 1948, post the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi by Nathuram Godse, then during the emergency between 1975 and 77 and immediately after the demolition of Babri Masjid in 1992.
Accepting the invitation from the RSS is a sign of the unfortunate times that we find ourselves in. Questions are rightly being asked if the upholder of the constitution and one who has served as the First Citizen of the country until recently, gives legitimacy to the divisive agenda of the RSS. It is akin to belittling all of India’s liberal fraternity, some of whom (read Gauri Lankesh, Narendra Dabholkar, MM Kalburgi and Govind Pansare) have had to pay a heavy price in their fight to safeguard the multicultural ethos of India.
Just because bigots are in power it does not mean one makes peace with them. By accepting to be the chief guest at the RSS event,Mukherjee has utterly exposed himself. The RSS, as an organisation, has been untouchable for a large swathe of the Indian liberal society, not without a reason. Its ideology is divisive and its politics destructive. It’s time we all woke up to this fact.
Gone are the days when these elements were branded as belonging to fringe groups. The fringe of the past have rapidly metamorphosed into a mainstream force.
These are just some of the frightening legacy of the RSS.Some of the fiercest critics of the RSS have detected a dangerous similarity between the dreaded terrorist organisation, ISIS, and the Nagpur-based Indian right-wing organisation. It is in this context that liberals in India are questioning. Was it then right for the former President to give legitimacy to the RSS by agreeing to be the chief guest at its event.
His visit to the RSS will be a negation of his entire life.

In April 1930, Mahatma Gandhi gave a call for 'Satyagraha' against the British Government. Gandhi himself launched the Salt Satyagraha undertaking his Dandi Yatra. Dr. Hedgewar decided to participate only individually and not let the RSS join the freedom movement officially. He sent information everywhere that the Sangh will not participate in the Satyagraha. However those wishing to participate individually in it were not prohibited. This meant that any responsible worker of the Sangh could not participate in the Satyagraha.
