Udupi, Jun 8: Two persons who were travelling in a car had a narrow escape after their car went up in flames on the national highway near Brahmavar here late evening on Friday June 8.
Karthik, who owns the Hyundai i20 car, along with another person was driving from Udupi to Kundapur when the incident took place.
When they reached near Brahmavar, Karthik sensed a smell emanating from the car engine. He parked along the side of the road and found that the battery had caught fire.
Karthik immediately called the fire personnel, however, as they had to come all the way from Kinnimulky and Malpe, it took at least half an hour for them to reach the spot. By then, the car had completely caught fire.
Luckily, Karthik and his co-traveller had managed to get out of the car on time. No injuries were reported.
Despite the heavy rains at the time of the incident, the car was completely burnt.
Traffic was affected for sometime due to the incident.
In an incident at Kavoor in Mangaluru on June 1, another Hyundai i20 had caught fire and the cause was said to be short circuit.
