Gangadhar Chadachana and Mahadeva Bhairagonda
Earlier the police had arrested two history-sheeters Hanumantha Poojary and Siddagundappa Tikkundi in this case. The prime suspect Mahadeva Bhairagonda who is a local Congress leader is still on the run.
Gangadhar is the brother of history-sheeter Dharmaraj Chadachana who was encountered by the police team led by Chadachana PSI Gopala Hallura on August 30, 2017. In the encounter PSI Hallura suffered injuries on his hand. On the same day of the encounter, his brother Gangadhar went missing.
Dharmaraja's mother Vimalabai had alleged that her son was killed in a fake encounter by the police abetted by Mahadeva Bhairagonda. She filed complaint with senior police officers alleging that police were involved and on the same day of encounter Gangadhar was murdered by Bhairagonda.
She also filed a Hebius Corpus plea in Kalaburagi court to find his missing son. She had also urged SP Prakash Nikkam to prove the case.
Following complaint, the police had arrested Hanumantha Poojary and revealed that police were involved in the case of missing and murder of Gangadhar. Belagavi IGP Alok Kumar had taken up the case. DSP Janardhana, CPI M A Mohammed led COD team later arrested Siddagonda Tikkundi. On the day of encounter of Dharmaraja, PSI Hallura had arrested Gangadhar and handed him over to his rival Mahadeva Bhairagonda. Hanumantha and Siddagonda had claimed that they had killed Gangadhar and dumped his body in Bhima River.
Hence after getting credible information that the cops were involved in the case, they were arrested and produced in court on June 16.
