Bengaluru, Jun 17: In a bid to curb question paper leaks, the state department of pre-university education (DPUE) will for the first time deliver question papers to the examination centres through online mode.

The decision will be implemented on a pilot basis during the second PU supplementary examinations to be held from June 29 to July 10. Officials said that two exam centres have been chosen for the purpose this time.

DPUE director C Shikha informed that with this move, there would not be any physical transfer of question papers to the examination centres.

"The question papers will be sent via email to the chief superintendents of the centres two-and-a-half hours before the exam. They will have to make arrangements to get the question papers printed after downloading them," she said.

In 2016, the Karnataka PU education department was hit by question paper leaks in two exams of second PU. Several people were arrested and the leaks had stirred a major controversy, besides costing the PU department a loss of Rs 62 lac. Thereafter, a high-level committee was formed which made several reccommendations, the chief among them being transfer of question papers to exam centres through online mode.

Officials said that the impact of the online transfer of question papers on a pilot basis would be studied, and if successful, would be implemented in the second PU examinations from next year onwards.
