Mangaluru: Mulky will not be part of proposed Greater Mangaluru - Minister Khader

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Jun 18: State urban development minister, U T Khader, said that no urban bodies and villages including Mulky town panchayat would be brought under the proposed Greater Mangaluru as their inclusion gives rise to more complications than achieving development. He was speaking to media persons during his personal visit to Mulky on Sunday June 17.

Khader opined that including places like Mulky under Greater Mangaluru willl give rise to problems such as provision of basic amenities will be harder. He felt that bringing several villages around Mulky under the town panchayat might prove to be more beneficial. He said that more emphasis will be laid on development of small urban centres.

He stated he will personally visit Mulky again to personally review problems being encountered including development of Mulky, Sasihithlu beach and Mulky multi-village drinking water scheme. He noted that the drinking water scheme here, which was implemented by MLA, Abhayachandra Jain, has encountered several problems. He promised to make efforts to implement underground drainage project at Mulky, and reminded that the then chief minister, Siddaramiaah, had released special grant of three crore rupees for Mulky bus stand.

He said that issues connected with highway like problems for water to drain away from the road, problems faced by pedestrians in crossing the highway etc and recommendation to build skywalks and underpasses for people to cross the road all along the highway will be discussed when he will meet union minister, Nitin Gadkari, shortly along with several people's representatives. About shortage of government land for housing schemes, he said there is proposal to build 15 storied buildings to mitigate this shortage.

He analyzed that in spite of good performance, Congress faced defeat because of malicious propaganda by rivals. He noted that Abhayachandra Jain had executed maximum development projects in his constituency but he was defeated because of this reason. He said that the people have realized their mistake now, and will support Congress in coming Lok Sabha and other elections.

Cine actor, Rajashekhar Kotian, Mulky block Congress president, Dhananjay Mattu, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee member, Vasant Bernard and other party leaders were present.

What's harm in including mulki under mangalore. At least the population gets increased.

All ready Mangalore has missed many central funds and investments because it comes under 10 lakh population and does not have a metro city tag. It's known as small city in size and population.

Other cities are showcased as better cities because it has larger area. Mangalore name has commercial importance all over world. No one knows the name "mulki".. Hence by getting mulki under mangalore it can get external investments. This minister hasn't given any exiting propoganda regarding development until now. He lacks far sighted vision as far as urban development is a concerned.

These ministers and beurocrats have studied this well.....forget mulki even if u add moodbidri ,entire ullal, bc road ,even then the population wont touch even 6 lakh....brother dont think that only u know....there are many great thinkers in Mangalore.

Instead its better to declare Mulki-Moodbidri, Ullal as seperate Taluks...develop their respective Fishing ports at Sasihithlu and Kotepur, develop Industrialy and other infra in their limits....

What 6 lakhs are you talking about. current city corporation population is 6 lakhs. Mangalore taluk population is 10 lakh+. Again if u combine up to mulki and bantwal on another side population will go up to 13 to 15 lakhs. It will certainly be eligible for certain big funds from central given for metro cities and will gain political importance.
